Item Biblioteka mojego wieku – czyli jaka?(2007) Jazdon, ArturWspółczesne biblioteki początku XXI wieku cechuje duża zmienność przypisywanych im ról i funkcji. Winno to skutkować uczynieniem biblioteki „miejscem spotkań”, z przestrzenią społeczną o nowych funkcjach, realizującą obok potrzeb biblioteczno-informacyjnych, potrzeby kulturalne, edukacyjne, społeczne, artystyczne społeczności lokalnej, w sieciowej współpracy i powiązaniu z innymi bibliotekami i instytucjami nauki, oświaty i kultury. Item Financial and personnel problems of research libraries in Poland(1995) Jazdon, ArturExplains how managers of Polish research libraries face many problems provoked by the changes which have taken place both in these institutions and in their surroundings on the one hand, and by the obsolete rules which their operations regulate. Among the most serious financial obstacles are the following: a prolonged delay in the confirmation of a library's budget; too many financial sources; financial dependence of the majority of the libraries; restrictions on self-governing, profit-oriented activities; and criteria for the allocation of funds. Among the problems connected with the personnel the following are at the top of the list: disproportional employment in the various types of libraries; inappropriate educational background; lack of certain types of qualified professional (e.g. information scientists, computer technicians); very low earnings; and the degraded status of the librarian, which discourages candidates from this profession. The management and the structure of the organization of the library are also outdated and there are too few competent professionals to make the necessary transformations efficiently. This article will introduce the reader to the main problems affecting the financial and personnel management of Polish research libraries at the academic level. In the complex arrangement of Polish libraries, the academic libraries form a significant part of the research libraries, and their book collections are unquestionably an essential component of the latter [1] in quantity as well as in quality. This is why these libraries cope with a variety of problems pertaining to the subject under discussion, which outnumber those faced by the smaller libraries at the professional research institutions.Item Finanse bibliotek uniwersyteckich w Polsce - Problemy i propozycje(2000) Jazdon, ArturThe author turns the attention to the lack of an institution that could make proposals and decisions about funding of academic libraries. Simultaneously, there are no standards of libraiy performance for the purpose of library evaluation. Current scheme of university financing with the funds divided into departments complicates the problem of overall costs including central libraiy funding. Another disadvantages of the situation of the central university libraries include their organisational placement and rules of financing. The author proposes initiating of the state programs supporting particular projects and tasks, modifications of the policies of the Scientific Research Committee (KBN), more active search of funding (including KBN grants) and cost reductions in libraries.Item Finansowanie bibliotek uczelni publicznych. Analiza wybranych wskaźników z lat 2002-2007(2009) Derfert-Wolf, Lidia; Górski, Marek; Jazdon, ArturCelem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie źródeł finansowania bibliotek uczelni publicznych w Polsce, możliwości zdobywania dodatkowych funduszy oraz sposobów alokacji środków w ramach budżetów bibliotecznych. Informacje i przemyślenia ogólne zostaną w dalszej części poparte analizą finansowych wskaźników efektywności, wybranych z projektu „Analiza funkcjonowania bibliotek naukowych w Polsce" (AFBN). Przegląd wartości wskaźników i ich zmian w latach 2002-2007 poprzedzono porównaniem projektu AFBN z międzynarodowymi zaleceniami i normami oraz doświadczeniami innych krajów w tym zakresie.Item Karol Reyzner (1803-1887) – wydawca, księgarz i drukarz poznański(Biblioteka Uniwersytecka, 2009) Jazdon, ArturThe book market in Poznań at the turn of the 1920s and the 1930s got a particular boost and encouragement. Following a temporary softening of the strict policy of the German authorities towards the Poles, Polish lending libraries and bookshops publishing in Polish and for the Poles began to crop up. The press market, publishing both local newspapers and journals, enjoyed a particular development. Karol Reyzner was a lesser known publisher and undoubtedly stayed in the shade of more eminent and prominent figures such as Walenty Stefański, Jan K. Żupański, Napoleon Kamieński, Antoni Popliński and Ludwik Merzbach. His influence upon the local book market was far less intensive than that of the above mentioned publishers as his publications were not that numerous or important. However, K. Reyzner managed to survive on the market for as long as half a century, i.e. for a much longer period than many other prominent local Polish publishers of the time. Publishing primarily books for less educated people and specializing in publications with no scientific or literary aspirations, simple and cheap judging from the editorial standards, he nevertheless carried out an important social function. The present article discusses the history of Reyzner’s printing office and its publishing output, additionally outlining the role of the lending library attached to the printing office – the first one managed by a Pole and targeted at the local Polish population. The analysis of the still existing catalogues of the library indicates that, unlike the publishing activity of the firm, the lending library addressed much more cultured and refined reader, which is manifested by the content of the collection that included many accomplished works written by prominent authors or researchers of the time.Item Problems in the Management and Operation of Academic Libraries in Poland during the Transiton Period(1994) Jazdon, Arturlibraries in Poland proves that old organizational structures, procedures and habits should all go or be changed. To accelerate this change, changes in legal regulations and library legislation are necessary, and an increase in resources allocated to science and education unavoidable. Our ultimate goal is to maintain and develop the Library’s position as the University’s principal information provider in support of teaching and research and to enhance its standing as one of the leading academic research libraries in Poland. But, what is also very important, librarians themselves, especially senior staff and managerial staff in Polish libraries, should realize the new function of libraries and be aware of the expectations of their users and of the ways to meet them. These factors, combined with inevitable automation of library procedures, should result in the years to come in a complete change in the appearance of Polish libraries.Item Selected indicators of the range and use of printed resources in Polish academic libraries(1999) Górny, Mirosław; Jazdon, Artur; Nowak, PiotrReports the results of a survey rating the amount and degree of the utilisation of printed materials in Polish academic libraries. The results which are presented by type (for example chemical, biological, technical libraries etc.) as well as by function (research libraries and libraries of educational institutions), concern the number of materials, including both books and periodicals. The authors include the amount of material in English as well as in other foreign languages. Figures illustrating the annual increase of these materials are also included. In addition, the article offers data which cover a number of * issues, including the range of materials which were ordered at the request of users, the time of cataloguing, the number of loans, the number of unfilled orders, the extent of the utilisation of the collections, the number of interiibrary loans, as well as the relegation of outdated materials. Finally, the survey reveals information on the number of libraries which research into user needs, the number of libraries which are open on Saturdays and Sundays, and the number of libraries which provide special services such as weekend loans.Item The implementation of information technology projects in Polish research and academic libraries in the early 1990 s. Questions of scope and effectiveness(1997) Górny, Mirosław; Jazdon, ArturReports the results of an inquiry directed at Polish academic, research and scientific libraries. An appraisal of the current IT infrastructure, degree of advances in automation in libraries, and utilization of the electronic sources has been carried out, based on the completed questionnaires received from the libraries in question. It has been recognized that the best developed IT infrastructure is to be found in the academic libraries and that they are well prepared for automation. The situation is much worse in the special libraries of the research and scientific institutes. Half of the libraries in the latter group are not engaged in any preparation for automation, mainly owing to a lack of financial resources. Also, they do not provide readers with access to sources in an electronic format. Points out that a relevant consistent programme for the implementation and utilization of IT in Polish libraries has not yet been prepared.Item Wielkopolska XIX wiek, historia prasy, czasopismo satyryczne(Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu, 2009) Jazdon, Artur; Piejko, RenetaArtykuł przedstawia „Die Ägyptische Finsterniss” – niemieckojęzyczne czasopismo satyryczne z 1849 roku. Artykuł rozstrzyga kwestie redakcji, omawia sprawy wydawnicze – periodyczność, cenę, kolportaż, objętość i format, strukturę wewnętrzną pisma.Item WYKORZYSTANIE TECHNIKI INFORMATYCZNEJ W POLSKICH BIBLIOTEKACH NAUKOWYCH(1996) Górny, Mirosław; Jazdon, ArturThe paper contains an estimation of the library automation advancement, the quality of the computer infrastructure and the use of computer media in Polish scientific libraries on the basis of a questionnaire. The university libraries are generally more advanced in their efforts for automation and access to computer media. Special libraries serving the research institute are much less advanced in this field due to lack of adequate funding: half of them did not start preparation for introducing automated systems and did not introduce computer media in their collections and services. The authors stress that there exists no unified program of library automation for scientific libraries.Item Zasób dokumentów drukowanych polskich bibliotek naukowych i ich wykorzystanie w latach 1991-94(1997) Górny, Mirosław; Jazdon, ArturThe paper contains results of the questionnaire study targeted at estimation of printed materials resources and their use in Polish research libraries. The results are split with respect to the library type (academic/special) and specialization (chemistry, life sciences, technical sciences etc.). The data presented include overall volume of monographs and serials collections and the volume of yearly acquisitions. The percentage of foreign materials with English literature singled I out is also given. Additional information in this section includes data about acquisitions on the order of library users and acquisition processing time. The second group of the data includes circulation statistics, the number of unsatisfied requests, estimations of collections use, interlibrary loans statistics and collection pruning policies. In addition, there is an information about studies of users needs, easy access policies (e.g. Saturday and Sunday opening hours and loans on weekend days).Item ZASTOSOWANIE OUTSOURCINGU W BIBLIOTEKACH POLSKICH SZKÓŁ WYŻSZYCH W ŚWIETLE BADAŃ ANKIETOWYCH(2008) Jazdon, ArturW artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród polskich bibliotek szkół wyższych.
