Item Typologie jazykové politiky (s příklady z historie existence češtiny ve vícejazyčném státě)(SORUS S.C. Wydawnictwo i Drukarnia Cyfrowa, 2011) Velčovský, Václav[Language Policy Typology (The Historic Experience of the Existence of the Czech Language in a Multilingual Country)]. Language policy can be defined as a set of official and publicly declared regulatory activities (prescriptive or restrictive) concern- ing the use of language, languages, varieties or codes in different areas of public life in the state (government, judiciary, education, armed forces, language landscape etc.). The theory of language management, planning and policy was massively developed in the 60’s in the Anglo-Saxon Areas in the context of decolonization of the British Empire and the national processes of emancipation of African, Asian and Pacific nations. This paper focuses on the most important language policy typologies: Kloss’s (1977) and Schiffman’s (1996) features of language policy, the Kloss’s (1966) types of multilingual communities and the Schiffman’s relationship between language policy and sociolinguistic reality (1996). The above mentioned typologies are compared and generalized and then applied to the history of multilingualism in the territory of the present-day Czech Republic (in 1890, 1930, 1940, 1970 and 2000).
