    Bemerkungen zum Formalisierungsproblem in der Linguistik

    The author considers the advantages and shortcomings of formalization applied in modern linguistics, especially in taxonomic and generative syntax. The author emphasizes the cognitive and audio-visual values of graphs of a type of binary tree diagram and the lack of such values in non-binary dependent trees. The usefulness of scalar schemes and the formulas of the logic of predicate are also mentioned.

    Beobachtungen zum Kompositionstyp Substantiv + freundlich im Vergleich mit dem Polnischen

    The subject of considerations in this article is a word formation consisting of a noun and an adjective "freundlich". Compounds of this type, characteristic mainly of the German language, occur most often in the press. The material base in this article are data stored in the Mannheim corpus and examples derived from West German press. The above mentioned compounds were analysed in respect of morphology, syntax and semantics. Contrastive study showed that these compounds do not have formally their analogical equivalent in Polish. That is why they are expressed in Polish either by means of negation, or less frequently as adjectives or adverbs.

    Bildungen auf -trächtig im Deutschen und ihre Entsprechungen im Polnischen

    In this article the author analysed -trächtig constructions in German along with their translational equivalents in Polish taking in to consideration the word-formation and semantic aspect. The foundation of the unilateral confrontation are examples taken from the press and literature stored in the so called Mannheim Corpus. Circa 70 word forms were analysed together with their occurrence contexts. When analysing the compounds mentioned in the title the author used the method of paraphrases either predicative or in the form of subordinate clauses or extended attributives. The method applied makes the choice of a proper equivalent easier in Polish. When in German univerbalization (Univerbierung) as it is called is the feature of the language in the analysed case, then in Polish shows tendencies to creating analytical constructions.

    The author's object of analysis are instrumental clauses in Polish, which are mostly reduced to participial constructions, and their translational equivalents in German. The corpus of sentences containing such subordinate clauses has been taken from Th. Mann's novel "Bekenntnisse des Hochstaplers Felix Krull". The syndetic structure of instrumental clauses in German is marked by the complementizers indem, damit, dass, dadurch dass. It depends on the translator's creativity to overcome the difficulties arising from the polyfunctional use of these complementizers, especially indem.

    Über Determinatoren im Deutschen und Polnischen

    The article discusses and compares the repertory and usage of determiners in German and Polish. Apart from the German article and its equivalents in Polish the author also discusses the other classes of determiners in both languages, such as demonstrative, possessive and indefinite pronouns, among them the so called quantificators. The similarities and differences are illustrated with examples of correct structures and structures with errors, i .e. by means of falsification.

    Zur adverbalen Funktion der für-Phrase aus kontrastiver Sicht

    The subject of considerations of this article is the prepositional phrase introduced by means of the preposition “für” in the confrontative interpretation (German-Polish confrontation). The author analysed first of all the main functions of this phrase, namely its syntactic adverbal function as a complement of the verb and as a predicative expression. The author has also made an attempt at a semantic analysis of selected nominal phrases with the preposition “für” and their equivalents in the Polish language pointing at the possibility of using such research work in the teaching of foreign languages.
