    Nowadays, more and more scholars prioritize an importance of an autobiographical narrative, which enables them to get to know examined people in terms of their individual experiences. We can observe an increase of a number of the scientists, being aware of a necessity to take disabled people’s perspective into consideration. That’s very meaningful that they have realized this necessity; otherwise they might make it impossible to establish a relationship with aforesaid people. Talking about ourselves helps us understand our feelings, thoughts and needs. That’s why the narrative is becoming an integral part of an intellectual disability’s discourse.

    Intellectual disability is characterized by below-average intelligence or mental ability and a lack of skills necessary for day-to-day living. Intellectual disability is a term used when there are limits to a person’s ability to learn at an expected level and function in daily life. We are capable of talking about a person’s l i m i t s, but if we think about a P e r s o n with a disability? The present study focuses on the question: is disability a quality, ANOTHER quality? Who is a P e r s o n with a disability? This paper aims at stimulating a debate on this topic.

    This book is an attempt at analysis of the current information which referring to the process of diagnosis, behaviour and perspectives in the development of children with rare genetic syndromes. It contains fundamental information on etiology and classification of selected genetic disorders, touches upon problems of their diagnosis, describes research methods, possibilities of applying them and outlines the directions of rehabilitation. It also presents what genetic examinations look like and how to prepare to them. Basic problems connected with intellectual disability, many a time accompanies genetic disorders. This publication was prepared since its authors felt there is a need to share information about the great social importance and which is of use to parents, students of special pedagogy, psychology, medicine and specialists who on daily basis work in the assistance of families.
