Item DEMOGRAFICZNE PRZEMIANY RODZINY - WYZWANIA DLA WSPÓŁCZESNYCH SPOŁECZEŃSTW(Wydział Prawa i Administracji UAM, 2004) Szukalski, PiotrThe contemporary Polish family is undergoing a number of demographic changes that modify its structure and size and in consequence the function it performs. The article sets out to present the main dimensions of these developments in the light of Polish and foreign literature. A discussion is offered of such phenomena as longevity (multigenerational families), childlessness and the trend to have few children, as well as the popularity of divorces and informal relationships and their impact upon the size, structure and functions of families. The presented developments indicate that already at present social policy specialists, when preparing long-term action plans, must allow for the future limitations regarding the educative functions played by the family, in particular care of the elderly.Item MOTYWACJA DO PRZEKAZYWANIA SPADKÓW W ŚWIETLE WSPÓŁCZESNYCH BADAŃ W KRAJACH WYSOKO ROZWINIĘTYCH(Wydział Prawa i Administracji UAM, 2001) Szukalski, PiotrBecoming a successor or not is a fact of very much importance for quite many people. The estimations made tell us that commonly the share of goods inherited within the property owned by contemporary households is up to 40 per cent. An inheritance obtained brings not rarely a violent change in material situation of an individual-successor while an unjust or unjustified division of it is able to cause long term family conflicts. The article presents particular types of motivations that can be met in contemporary economic ideas; the types in question make a framework of the analysis of a behavior as far as a property accumulation is concerned and, consequently, in relation with transmitting it to the progeny under a form of an inheritance. The problems involved with inheriting shall be of increasing importance together with strengthening of market economy in our country and with still and more deeper differences in the society from the point of view of property owned. Referring to different categories of inheritances (planned or non-planned, capitalist, retrospective, paternalist, motivated by ordinary succession o f generations, etc.) - the Author gives a review o f particular types of motivations and in final part of the article he is occupied with a qualification of the existing models of inheriting and with empirical verification of typical approaches.Item Redukcja umieralności a wielopokoleniowość polskich rodzin(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2006) Szukalski, PiotrThe factors presented in this article fit perfectly in a wider discussion on the influence long-term demographic changes have on the size and the structure of the family. The most conspicuous symptoms are: the rise of the number of multi-generation families, triggered by the decrease in the death rate, and decrease in the number of large (having more than two children) families, caused by a decrease in the fertility rate. The effect of the two processes is an automatic rise of the importance of inter-generation relations in the family, to the loss of intra-generation relations, i.e. a verticalisation of the family net. The article is restricted to the analysis of only one side of the above equation, the changes in the death rate, and its importance for the demographic structure of the Polish family. The result of the changes is a conspicuous rise of the probability of one's being a member of a multi-generation family, this being independent of one's status or position in the genealogical tree (children, children, or grandchildren). Automatically, the time spent in a given status within the family, performing the social role of the parent, the child, the grandparent or the grandchild, is increasing.Item Rejestrowane związki osób tej samej płci we współczesnej Europie(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Szukalski, PiotrThe analyses presented in this article yield the conclusion that, in time, same-sex relationships undergo assimilation to heterosexual relationships. Perhaps, the term assimilation should be replaced with another, disappearance of differences, as it appears that people in same-sex relationships have an ideal of family life similar to the one widely-found in all of the society. The differences are mainly the result of the adoption of a different division of family roles, when compared to the traditional one, and of meeting a different set of expectations from the environment.Item Sieroctwo biologiczne osób nieletnich w Polsce w długookresowej perspektywie(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2007) Szukalski, PiotrThe data presented in this paper perfectly fit a wider discussion on the long-term evolution of the size and the structure of the family. They show that the demographic regime transformations - mainly the influence of the decrease in the death rate in the case of orphanhood - change the context of the family in which one lives and functions. The most relevant aspect of the change in question is the lengthening of the period in which one stays within a given family status, i.e. the increase in the number of years during which one is a wife/husband, a parent, a child, a grandchild, or a greatgrandchild). The change manifests through the lengthening of the period of co-existence between multiple generations of a family, and as a result, the increase in the frequency of the occurrence of multigenerational families.Item Status społeczny matek dzieci pozamałżeńskich w Polsce przełomu XX i XXI wieku(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2008) Szukalski, PiotrThe last two decades were a period of increase in numbers and proportion of out-ofwedlock births in Poland. It raised a question if the increase is related with changes in socio-economic status of mothers of the extramarital children. Data on the status of the mothers from the last decades were compared. Generally, independently on the period unmarried mothers had worse status defined in terms of age, educational attainment, and main source of maintenance. The analyzed data suggested further increase in proportion of extramarital births due to generational effect.Item Wielkość i struktura rodziny a przejście demograficzne(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2005) Szukalski, PiotrThe basic indicators of the changes labelled as the demographic transition are: 1) the decrease in the number o f members of the family and relatives of the same generation, as a result of changes in fertility, and 2) the simultaneous increase in the time-span of the members' co-existence, thanks to the substantial drop in the death-rate. As result of the demographic transition, the size and the demographic structure of the family net is subject to change.
