The emergence of new thinking about language is directly associated with the tendency to shift from objectivity to subjectivity. To make the reconstruction of this change, I will discuss the selected elements of the structuralist theory of language and compile them with elements of the cognitive theory of language; for instance, classic categorization methods vs. natural categorization, taxonomic definingvs. cognitive defining. The proposed comparative analyzes open up space to thinking about the measures that can be taken in order to create conditions conducive to revealing the real development potential of a child in the process of education.Item Wiedza z zakresu zagadnień prawnych w pracy pracownika socjalnego(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Rajewska De Mezer, JoannaThis article raises the problem of the need to equip a social worker with knowledge concerning legal issues useful in assistance activities. Professional knowledge of selected legal problems is necessary in the face of still emerging new situations that create dysfunction for collective life and cause inability in overcoming difficultiesby using their own capabilities, competences and resources. Work aimed at supporting and activating a social welfare beneficiaryrequire from a social worker a wide interdisciplinary knowledge, including familiarity with various fieldsof law. Knowledge in the fieldof substantive (social law, family law) and procedural law used during work with a beneficiaryal-lows a social worker to conduct the assistance process more effectively. The law-realted problems faced by the social worker who performs statutory tasks are connected to the extent of the regulated problems, constant changeability of legal regulations, their interpretative ambiguity, the necessity of using judicial decisions. It requires appropriate, methodical and purposeful action in the process of educating social workers, which influences theexpected efficiency of theirwork and a sense of safety from a formal point of view.Item Propozycja narzędzia do pomiaru natężenia poczucia zagrożenia stereotypem wśród dzieci, opracowanego na podstawie koncepcji multizagrożeń Jenessy Shapiro i Stevena Neuberga(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Borsich, Szymon; Deptuła, MariaScientificmagazines have published hundreds of research papers on stereotype threat. They indicated that despite their intellectual potential some individuals may experience lower performance in school tasks because of the fear of confirminga stereotype about the low abilities of their social group. Most of the research was of an experimental nature, with the use of a single manipulation within the experiment group and comparing its results to those of the control group. Additionally, despite two decades of research, discrepancies in how the term is definedor in the manipulation and measurement methods persist. The article outlines the development of a tool for measuring the intensity of a sense of low abilities stereotype threat among elementary school pupils (grades IV-VI) and the results of a pilot study. The scale was developed based on the theoretical assumptions of Shapiro’s and Neuberg’s multi-threat concept, which appears to put in order the aforementioned discrepancies in understanding the phenomenon’s essence and the ways it is measured.Item Zaufanie interpersonalne jako komponent relacji edukacyjnych i pomocowych(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Piorunek, MagdalenaThe category of trust has been considered in numerous philosophical, sociological, psychological, economic, legal, and educational deliberations. The issue of whether trust occurs in or is absent from human relationships has been widely discussed in the social discourse and has been a component of social capital of organisations. This paper reviews interdisciplinary literature to characterise and describe the phenomenon, identifying its dimensions, types, and patterns. It focuses on interpersonal trust as a factor characterising the functioning in organisations, also with reference to educational institutions. Fatalne dziedzictwo, eskapizm elit, iskry nadziei(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Kwieciński, ZbigniewThe article raises the question of the causes of the public education crisis, both the crisis in recent past and that conditioned by several centuries of Poland’s past. The position of Adam Podgórecki on the subject of comprehensive analyses of Polish society is particularly important. It combines two positions. He believes that Polish systemic crises can be put down to the experiences of post-totalitarianism and Polish unique defects persisting for several centuries. The author of the article negatively assesses the possibility of overcoming the crisis of public education by academic elites, which are responsible for the collapse of universities and the crisis of higher education. Common beliefs about public education have turned out to be illusions. The author sees the hopes of improving the state of public education in resistance to the destruction of democracy and to the strong ideological and political pressure. Openness to Europe and the world, which Poles do not give away, inspires hope, too.Item Zjawisko przeedukowania i inflacji dyplomu akademickiego – na przykładzie społeczeństwa amerykańskiego(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Sobczak, AnnaDemocratization and massificationof higher education has resulted in the appearance of a disadvantageous phenomenon known as the overeducation of society. The term refers to a situation in which there is a surplus of people with higher education in relation to the needs of the society and the labor market. This has led to academic diploma inflation, which does not have such a high value as it used to and currently does not guarantee professional success and high social status. The aim of the article is to present selected aspects of this problem in American society. In this study, the definitionsof the eponymous phenomenon are presented as well as statistical data and the main trends regarding the overeducation of the society in the United States.Item Socjalizacja polityczna w przebiegu życia – perspektywa kontynuacji i zmiany(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Hildebrandt-Wypych, DobrochnaThe following text presents various alternative theoretical approaches in political socialization research. Some of the theoretical insights provided by the functional, systemic and interpretative perspectives are identifiedin order to depict the discussion around the continuity and change within the political socialization research. Whereas in the firstperiod of political socialization research the aim was to explain the continuity in the development of political orientations, it was later forced to account for modificationand the potential for change (especially when addressing the interpretative issues of identity politics). After describing the field’stheoretical shifts, the life-course model of political socialization is presented. The life-course model attempts to deal with the problem of continuity and change in the political socialization process, pointing to its remarkable complexity and lifelong flexibility. It offers a systematic, interdisciplinary and holistic way of conceptualizing political socialization. It points to the importance of political socialization research in demonstrating interdependence between objective functions of the political system and subjective political learning of a reflexive individualItem Education Leaders’ Health in the Integral Perspective. The firstpart focuses on theoretical opinions on the relationships of culture and education. Pedagogical thinking about culture is dominated by its humanistic understanding, in which a special sense of culture has been understood as one of the top of human achievement. In traditional pedagogical reflection, there is noticeable concentration on culture as “valuable for educational interactions”. In such a perspective, the space of popular culture is ignored. Perceived as a bad Mr. Hyde of cultural space, it is treated as an area of threats to the development of children and youth. But culture is not only a canon of the achievements of past generations. In the anthropological sense, these are simply the ways of living a life in a society. Popular culture is the space where various aspects are commented on. Popular art plays a special role here. The second part discusses the pop cultural texts that illustrate the characteristic elements of utopia: burial of the “old world”, establishing a “perfect” order, protection against external destruction and against destruction from inside. Formed at different times and based on different means of expression, they address the dilemmas associated with thinking about a “better world”. They present the mechanisms and consequences of building a new society “with their own language”.Item W poszukiwaniu eklektycznego paradygmatu edukacji głuchych(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Tomaszewski, Piotr; Moroń, EwelinaIn recent years, changes in the approach to deafness and, hence, in the education of the deaf and hard of hearing have been occurring around the world, including Poland. Deafness is increasingly perceived as a sociocultural phenomenon and not merely as a medical one, while sign language is seen as a natural language that can be used in deaf schools and by large numbers of d/Deaf people. Nevertheless, it seems at present that both deafness models are incompatible with each other for ideological reasons although they are concurrent, the medical model being dominant and the sociocultural one being alternative. For that reason, both the d/Deaf community and the deaf education still contend with significan problems related to the language policy, discrimination based on deafness (audism), sign language (linguicism), disability (ableism) or the specificityof conflictsamong the d/Deaf themselves (deafism). All this will be illustrated in this paper, along with suggested possible solutions.Item The Protection of the Fundamental Rights of the Child in the Light of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Diallo, Boubacar SidiThe adoption of a binding international treaty on the rights of the child is presented by practitioners and researchers as a “revolution”, marking the transition from the legal status of the child as a subject of the right, to a full actor of rights protection. For the fundamental rights of the child not to remain merely theoretical, but to become concrete and meaningful, it is important to provide them with effective judicial protection. This issue is more than ever topical, with the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child establishing a procedure for the submission of communications, which entered into force on 14 April 2014. This new Optional Protocol gives children the right to appeal to the Committee on the Rights of the Child when the rights protected by the Convention and its firsttwo protocols are violated. The purpose of this brief study is to analyze the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (African Charter), adopted in 1990, which is the firstregional legal text for children specificallyand as such unique, since no other region in the world has so far developed such a protection mechanism.Item Lifelong learning – społeczno-kulturowe (re)konstrukcje(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Melosik, ZbyszkoThe article includes considerations on different version of lifelong learning in contemporary culture. Four approaches are analysed. The firstone is classical, connected mostly with adult education,. In the second, lifelong learning is incorporated in neoliberal vision of man and society and is treated as a way of permanent change of one’s knowledge and skills to be competitive in a job market. Third approach relates to the role of popular culture in shaping man’s identity by developing ability to accept and quickly forget enormous numer of stimulus from mass media and consumption area. The core of last approach includes the conviction that just man’s passions are the best and deepest drive for permanent personal growth.
