Item Standard of physical attractiveness(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1997) Kujawa, Betina; Strzałko, JanThe research was conducted in order to corroborate the validity of the hypotheses that (1) there are certain common criteria of physical attractiveness of the face, and hence divergence of assessments between persons judging attractiveness is reduced, regardless of their sex or age; (2) assessment of the physical attractiveness o f human faces is a property of the cognitive system; its criteria emerge early in the course of the individual development and do not change with age; (3); the most attractive faces will be characterised with trait variants close to the mean values for a given population. Computer averaged faces will be perceived as more attractive than actually existing faces, since they bear the greatest resemblance to the mental prototype of a face.Item Profesor Ilse Schwidetzky 1907-1997(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Bergman, PawełItem Profesor Elżbieta Promiriska 1941-1998(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Łaska-Mierzejewska, TeresaItem Variability of trace element content in human tooth sequences - a multivariate analysis(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Szostek, KrzysztofAnalyses of human bone material expand our knowledge of aspects of modern and historical population ecology, the etiology of diseases, reconstruction of historical diets, and the social and economic status of human groups. 35 adult lower jaw tooth sequences from the 17th-century Cracow population were analysed. The skeletons were found in crypts of the medieval St. Mark’s church, following international standards. Levels of Pb, Zn, Cu and Cd were determined in undamaged permanent teeth PI, P2, Ml, M2 and M3, using anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV), while strontium concentrations were determined using AAS method. There were statistically significant differences in the levels of the analysed trace elements within the investigated tooth sequences. High interspecimen variability in the amount of accumulated microelements, probably resulting from nutritional, developmental and physiological stress, was also observed. The accumulation of Pb, Cd and Zn was the highest in M3 teeth and the lowest in M l. The results indicate that only one type of teeth should be used for intergroup and intragroup comparison of trace element content.Item Nutritional habits and the structure of consumption in the Kashubian population of the town of Jastarnia (the Hel Peninsula)(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Budnik, AlicjaThe first part of the present study is a description of the Kashubian population inhabiting the Hel Peninsula. Further, the author follows the changes of the dietary pattern and the nutritional habits of this population over a span of more than one hundred years. The past nutritional habits (prevailing in the 18th century and in the first half o f the 20th‘century) were reproduced on the basis of ethnographic source materials. The present day diet was determined on the basis of the data obtained by way of weekly family questionnaires and daily individual questionnaires distributed in September, June and November in Jastarnia among Kashubian families and school children. The results were then compared with the literature data and discussed.Item Sois treści(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998)Item Studying tactile sensitivity - population approach(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Kozłowska, AgnieszkaThe purpose of this study was to investigate the basic characteristics of threshold tactile sensitivity in man. The study involved the examination of over 1500 people aged from 7 to 85 years, including 300 adult subjects aged over 21 years. 55% of the population under study were females. Digital pulps of the subjects were examined with the Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments aesthesiometer. The variability range of touch sensation was determined and the mean value and standard deviations of tactile threshold in sex and age classes were calculated. The relationship of touch with age, sex, body mass and height and with social and economic factors was investigated by means of the analysis of variance. An attempt to assess the inheritability of tactile sensitivity was made. Finally, the adaptive meaning of the sense o f touch in man was discussed.Item Profesor Tadeusz Dzierżykray-Rogalski 1918-1998(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Strzałko, Jan; Drozdowski, ZbigniewItem Doktorat honoris causa AWF we Wrocławiu dla profesora Zbigniewa Drozdowskiego(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Janusz, AntoniItem Facial growth and remodeling in the australopithecines - a review(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Kaszycka, Katarzyna A.The purpose of this paper is to review the previous investigations of the facial growth and remodeling patterns of early hominids (the australopithecines), and to present some of the problems that arise from these kinds of analysis.Item Comparisons of means of many populations(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Kościński, KrzysztofTesting hypotheses on the equality of means is very common. Methods of comparing simultaneously many populations with regard to their means are less popular than the methods of comparing two populations. For this reason, the paper deals only with the latter case. Several tests used for the verification of hypotheses on the equality o f many means are described. If such a hypothesis is rejected with these tests, we can find the so-called homogenous groups. An example is given showing how to use the tests and how to interpret the results obtained.Item Body build of children and youth with cerebral palsy(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Łuczak, Ewa; Mięsowicz, Irmina; Szczygieł, AndrzejThe material consists of the results of anthropometric measurements of 16 somatic traits o f 155 children and youth (83 boys and 72 girls) at the age of 7-18 years. The analysis of 2-score values showed that the low body height, narrow hips, laterally flattened chest and low body mass, in spite of slight differences make boys and girls with cerebral palsy more similar to one another with respect to body proportions than to their healthy peers. 'Item Electrophoretic Mobility of Cell Nuclei (EMN) index — relation to biological and physical properties of the cell(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1998) Czapla, Zbigniew; Cieślik, JoachimThe authors describe certain physical and biological properties of cell and resulting electrical and electrokinetic properties, directly or indirectly related with the Electrophoretic Mobility of Cell Nuclei (EMN) index. This index, may become a new criterion in the estimation of the biological age, irrespective of the stage of the ontogenesis.
