    Younger Dryas Cladocera assemblages from two valley mires in central Poland and their potential significance for climate reconstructions

    Two sections of sediment from small oxbow-lake infillings located in different river valleys in central Poland were studied by cladoceran analysis in order to examine the response of aquatic ecosystems to the Younger Dryas. Lithological and geochemical records, as well as chydorid (Chydoridae) ephippia analysis were also used to reconstruct Younger Dryas climate trends. A high concentration of cladocerans, as well as the presence of Cladocera taxa preferring warmer water, was found. It is likely that local processes in the oxbow lakes were important, because the presence of warm-preferring taxa was also related to their habitats and their development. Yet local environmental forces, such as the influence of the rivers, habitat modification, macrophyte abundance, and eutrophication, were not only major factors to affect the Cladocera diversity in the Younger Dryas. The observation of changes in the composition and concentration of Cladocera in oxbow-lake infillings indicates that most of the changes occurred in response to climate

    Zbigniew Drozdowicz – NARRATIVE STYLES OF CHRISTIAN THEOLOGIANS An interesting, and perhaps also leading to a deeper reflection, contribution to the discussion over the conversion into Christian faith might be the look upon various styles of expression of well known and influential Christian theologians. Many of these styles of expression were later on mim-icked in a more or less successful manner, becoming something similar to a gold standard - not just for forthcoming generations of theologians, but also for those secular ones, who tried to convince to their faith (or unfaith) as many people as they could.

    Edukacja obywatelska w świetle współczesnych przemian koncepcji obywatelstwa w państwie narodowym

    The general aim of the article is to describe the infl uence of diverse interpretations of citizenship in a pluralistic society on the new meanings of citizenship education a contemporary nation-state. The theoretical background for the study is the social constructivist perspective. The article begins with the brief description of the multidimentional infl uence of globalization on a nation-state and citizenship, followed by the discussion on one of its key consequences: the shifting concept of citizenship in the – currently in crisis – European nation-state and welfare state. The key research question of the article concerns the infl uence of the growing diversity and fl exibility of the citizenship ideals and norms on citizenship education. What citizen is the contemporary school supposed to shape and what are the current challenges and development paths within citizenship education? The answers to these questions are searched with reference to the T. McLaughlin conception of maximal minimal citizenship and the interpretative character of the democratic citizenship. One of the key controversies concerning school as a place for learning democracy is the balance between – on one side – equipping young people with the socially and culturally adequate knowledge and skills for „a good citizenship” and – on the other – developing a sense of national community around a shared common identity. The clash between the minimal and maximal (including e.g. global citizenship ideas) concept of citizenship education brings up the necessity for the educational consensus on the virtues recognized in the public sphere, especially in the light of the growing social, ethnical and cultural diversity in contemporary societies. The growing interconnectedness of national and global citizenship leads to the more advanced (deeper) understanding of the latter: not only as an ethical concept, but also as a practical way of participating in a liberal democracy.

    Form, fi gure, and the experience of time in seven southern composers of the 1950s-60s

    After the 1980s it is diffi cult, following stylistic criteria, to draw a map of contemporary academic music. All styles are compossible, and all are practiced. In this context, the geographical entity “South of Italy” does not stand out for a musical identity with special technical-stylistic features. Rather, at a socio-cultural level, the South remains today – in music no less than in all areas where there is a gap between top development and stagnation – a land of emigrants: six out of the seven composers treated (Ivan Fedele, Giuseppe Colardo, Rosario Mirigliano, Giuseppe Soccio, Nicola Cisternino, Biagio Putignano, Paolo Aralla) live in the North of Italy. The positive aspect of this is the affi nity of the South with the transnational and superstructural community of contemporary music, which from European and Western has now become almost global. The composers under consideration belong to the generation of the ‘50s, rooted in the serial and post-serial movements (from which Franco Donatoni, Luciano Berio, Luigi Nono, Salvatore Sciarrino, Giacinto Scelsi, are the principals models, to mention only the Italians), dipped in the general phenomenon of timbrism (particularly spectralism), and acquainted with electronics. They draw from these sources various instruments of compositional technique and aspects of their poetics. In particular these composers, active from the ‘80s, develop new ways of construction of the temporal form of music. They share the goal to establish a new continuity, different from the tonal one but at the same time transcending the serial and post-serial disintegration and fragmentation. The primary means to this end is a new enhancement of the category of fi gure, as a clear and distinct, recognizable aggregate of pitches, intervals, register, durations, timbre, articulation, dynamics, and texture. Each composer elaborates the atonal fi gural material in different ways, emphasizing one aspect or another. For example, Fedele (1953) is a master in the management of form per se, Colardo (1953) in the activation of disturbed harmonic effects, Mirigliano (1950) in the creation of a slight tension from the smallest vibrations of sound, Soccio (1950) in the set up of movement by means of accumulations and discharges of energy, Cisternino (1957) in a Cagean-Scelsian emphasis on sound as such, Putignano (1960) in the suspension of time through the succession and transformation of images, Aralla (1960) in the foundation of form from below, from the concreteness of sound.

    Net Art – nowa przestrzeń artystycznej kreacji młodzieży

    Płynna Baumanowska ponowoczesność coraz bardziej komplikuje egzystencję młodzieży – sprawia bowiem, że pytania o to, jak żyć mądrze, szczęśliwie, w zgodzie z samym sobą i z innymi stają się wyjątkowo trudne. Odpowiedzi na nie młodzież poszukuje m.in. w procesie artystycznego tworzenia, który pozwala integrować aktywność umysłu, emocji i wyobraźni. Język sztuki staje się językiem komunikacji z samym sobą i z innymi. Przemiany w kulturze, w tym także zmiana jej charakteru z werbalnego na audiowizualny, którą wywołały m.in. nowe media, spowodowały, że wytwory artystyczne coraz częściej przekraczają sferę materialności – w konsekwencji mamy do czynienia z nowymi sposobami tworzenia. Wytwór pojawia się w cyberprzestrzeni, coraz częściej bywa też multimedialny, a proces wykorzystywania przestrzeni wirtualnej do zaprezentowania innym własnej twórczości staje się konceptualizacją refleksyjnej tożsamości. Zdaniem pesymistów pojawiająca się „elektroniczna narkotyzacja” to zaprzeczenie „rzeczywistej” twórczości młodzieży, bo na portalach www.deviantart.com, www.digart.pl, czy www.tumblr.com pojawia się coraz więcej przenikniętych technologią wytworów, które zabijają podmiotowość. Wydaje się jednak, że nie należy obawiać się uniformizacji wypowiedzi artystycznych realizowanych przy użyciu narzędzi multimedialnych, bo – jak podkreślał Saul Bellow – każdy dysponuje garścią własnych poematów. Cyberprzestrzeń zapewnia tylko nowe możliwości do ich zaprezentowania.

    Relewancja a interpretacja tekstów literackich

    There has been some discussion about how far relevance theory can help in analysing the interpretation of literary works. Starting from the assumption that literary works are not entirely sui generis but exploit at least some of the abilities used in other varieties of verbal communication, I show how the same theoretical machinery used in analysing the interpretation of ordinary utterances can shed light on the interpretation of literary texts, and touch briefly on two more general issues: how can fictional works be relevant, and how can illocutionary and perlocutionary effects be disentangled in the case of literary works?     Grodzenia, dobra wspólne i „zewnętrze”

    Przedmiotem artykułu Massimo De Angelisa jest relacja zachodząca między walkami społecznymi przeciwko grodzeniom dokonywanym przez kapitał, dobrami wspólnymi i kapitałem. Autor dowodzi, że walki te mogą być rozpatrywane zarówno jako przeszkoda dla akumulacji kapitału, jak i proces produkcji „zewnętrza” dla kapitalistycznych stosunków społecznych. W szczególności zróżnicowane walki mogą dać początek alternatywnym praktykom wytwarzania wartości, które można interpretować jako „zewnętrze kapitału”.

    Trzy plany akcji w Fedrze Seneki

    In the following article I present my own concept for interpreting Seneca’s Phaedra, demonstrating that the action takes place on three distinct settings: that of the royal palace (DOMUS), which is the domain of Phaedra’s actions, that of the city of Athens (URBS), which is the realm of Theseus and the Nurse, and that of the forest (SILVAE), which constitutes the world of Hippolytus. In the second part of the article I propose to arrange the stage in a way that takes the proposed settings into account.

    Wykluczenie społeczne wyzwaniem dla współczesnego świata

    Społeczeństwo, w którym egzystuje współczesny człowiek, jest nie tyle trudne, ile bardzo złożone. Dlatego też wielu ludzi nie radzi sobie z różnymi problemami natury osobistej i społecznej. Wielu z nich doświadcza wykluczenia społecznego definiowanego jako efekt różnego rodzaju upośledzeń społecznych, wobec czego jednostka lub grupa nie może w pełni uczestniczyć w życiu gospodarczym, społecznym, ekonomicznym i politycznym społeczeństwa, do którego należy. Podmiotem wykluczenia społecznego jest przede wszystkim jednostka, która na drodze realizacji własnego humanitas została wykluczona w sposób przez siebie zawiniony lub doznała wykluczenia z powodu niewłaściwej polityki państwa. Do najważniejszych problemów lokujących się w obrębie wykluczenia autor zalicza: niepełnosprawność, bezrobocie, bezdomność, uzależnienia, samotność i ubóstwo. Scharakteryzowano przywołane powyżej obszary wykluczenia oraz podjęto próbę wskazania sposobów pomocy jednostkom, które stały się ofiarami wykluczenia. Podstawową instytucją pomagającą tym osobom jest pomoc społeczna, której pierwszym i podstawowym celem jest ulepszanie życia społecznego. Ważne miejsce zajmują w niej pracownicy socjalni, którzy jako jednostki wykształcone i kompetentne mogą wpływać na lepsze życie człowieka. Niestety, współcześnie nie zawsze w wystarczający sposób zaspokajane są podstawowe potrzeby zagubionych osób. Najsilniej dotykają one grupy i jednostki najsłabsze. Wskutek owych braków w polityce społecznej oraz w jej przedmiotowych zakresach: w polityce ludnościowej, rodzinnej, edukacyjnej, mieszkaniowej, polityce podziału dochodu, zabezpieczenia społecznego, zatrudnienia, następuje erozja najsłabszych ogniw systemu społecznego. Konieczne zatem wydaje się otwarcie polityki państwa na różne problemy społeczne, nie zawsze zawinione przez jednostkę, ale przez system, w którym się ona znalazła.

    Życie po wybuchu. Refleksy transformacji w czeskiej dramaturgii po 1989 roku

    Niniejszy esej poświęcony jest analizie czeskich, teatralnych refleksji na temat rzeczywistości po transformacji politycznej. Przegląd wybranych sztuk, powstałych w latach 1994-2006, zawiera krótkie literaturoznawcze opracowania tekstów M. Bambuška, L. Baláka i J. Topola, dopełnione uwagami na temat dzieł D. Drábka i M. Urbana. Skatalogowano powtarzające się w sztukach wymienionych autorów motywy: czekania na barbarzyńców, poczucia epistemologicznego i społecznego chaosu, neotrybalizmu i spustoszenia w dziedzinie międzyludzkiej komunikacji (kryzys języka). Pomocną kategorią, wywodzącą się z amerykańskiej socjologii, jest backlash: stan po wybuchu. Backlash jest stanem psychologicznym (również w sensie psycho- logii społecznej), który skłania do podejmowania decyzji nieracjonalnych i niebezpiecznych, służących wyłącznie zniesieniu poczucia niepewności i tęsknoty. Ten stan obserwują i komentują wymienieni autorzy sztuk teatralnych.

In the article the examples of the changes made by Vida are demonstrated.

    Integracja europejska w mikroperspektywie. Graniczne miasta blizniacze w Europie Zachodniej i Srodkowo-Wschodniej

    The dynamization of integration processes in Europe has generated numerous research topics for political analysis. Border integration is an expression of the broader unification processes of certain structures. It is also a manifestation of the observation that people think globally, but function locally. The European integration perspective is therefore practically implemented in micro structures, exemplified by border twin towns. The objective of this paper is to revive the micro perspective as a useful approach in the investigation of integration processes. This perspective is applied in the field of border studies, which focus on research into the transformation of European borders resulting from integration processes, as well as on the transformations of the concepts of statehood, territoriality and sovereignty. It is assumed that these phenomena are definitely more observable at the outskirts of states than in their centers. Theoretical and empirical considerations are based on the example of border twin towns, as the European units of local government that integrate across borders. The main differences between the integration of towns in Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe are also indicated in the analysis.
