Item Das Drama von August Wilhelm von Iffland als Ausdruck des Identitätsproblems des deutschen Bürgers(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Jurczyk, EwaThis article discussed the tendencies of dramas of the popular drama writer in Germany at the turn of the 18th century. August Wilhelm Iffland, a representative of a trivial kind of bourgeois drama, the so called family drama. In the centre of his interests is the German burgher of this period who tries to establish his own position in the society. Iffland analyses social mechanisms - social, religious and cultural - which made it that the German burgher - passive and subordinated in public life attached greatest importance to the preservation of authority and the leading position in family life.Item Das Problem der Einsamkeit in den Romanen von Marlen Haushofer(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Palmer, KatarzynaIn the beginning the article defines the philosophical, psychological and sociological aspects of the problems of loneliness in modern literature. The author refers here, among other things, to Kierkegaard's, Schopenhauer's, Heidegger's and Jasper's theses showing their reception in l. Bachman's, Th. Bernhard's and P. Handke's works. In the main part the author characterizes figures of women in the main novels of the Austrian writer Marlen Haushofer, proving that all of them are in private, professional and social life lonely figures. In the conclusion the author says that the category of loneliness is a fundamental world-view structure in the w hole writing of Haushofer.Item Der Schriftsteller und der Ort. Aussagen der DDR-Autoren zum Thema: „Mein Ort". Versuch einer textimmanenten Interpretation(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Szubartowicz, SławomiraThe article is about the search of identity by the writers from the German Democratic Republic. The author analysed in it the prose forms of opinions of seven writers representing different generations in the German Democratic Republic (H. Richter, l. von Wangenheim, M. Neumann, O. Herbert, U. Püschel, B. Wogatzki and W. Kaufmann). These opinions appeared in April1986 in the East German literary journal "Neue Deutsche Literature". In all the utterances the autobiographical trend strikes us in which direction the authors go in order to picture the phenomenon of looking by them of the so called "one's own place" in the spiritual landscape of the divided Germany. The autobiographical record makes it possible for the above mentioned authors to present the problem of East German writer's identity in a measurable and concrete manner with reference to a given writer as human being thus making it possible for him to avoid the burden of historical motivation in relation to their own national history. Giving up the historical dimension of the problem of German identity the above mentioned writers resort to the geographical experience of the place of residence; to the neighbourly relations started on its basis; to the family tradition of customs in order to come from this externally experienced perspective of a given territory to the extra-territorial generalizations concerning the symbolic place of man on an equally symbolically understood earth. This kind of an all-compassing imagination of the above mentioned writers from the German Democratic Republic in their considerations on the subject of identity renders both their need of transgressing the tight territorial boundaries of their own statehood and is an example of an escape into utopia, sentimentalism and the myth of man with his brotherly, supranational earthly paradise. Thus the problem of identity of writers from the German Democratic Republic may, at least with reference to the above mentioned authors, be considered as controversial and unsolved.Item Der „geschliffene" Diamant(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Borkowski, MaciejThe article is an excerpt from the Ph. D. dissertation entitled „Die Rezeption Friedrich Hebbels im Dritten Reich“ (The reception of Friedrich Hebbel in the Third Reich). The subject of analysis is the Nazi reception of the drama „Der Diamant“ (The diamond) which was transposed from the comedy of human foibles into an anti-Semitic tendentious play in the period of the Third Reich. After confronting the Nazi updating with the author's intentions and interpretations based on the analysis of the text of drama the author reconstructed on the basis of the preserved scripts of the play and theatrical reviews manipulations of the theatres and theatrical criticism aiming at ideological-political functioning of the drama.Item Die Ethnoethik Bernard Bolzanos(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Grzywacz, MałgorzataBernard Bolzano (1781-1848) is well-known to large circles as a logician and mathematician. In the above article the main point of interest became its social ethics whose practical application was perceived by Bolzano in quieting conflicts and feuds which then troubled the Habsburg monarchy. The ethics of Bolzano is in opposition to the moral law of Kant, rejects his subjectivity. In practice it means submission of man and his behaviour to verification by the moral law to which in tum even God is submitted. Surrender was the only way of solving conflicts of Czechs and Germans Irving together in Germany to which "Speeches for elevation" (Erbauungsreden) were devoted and which were delivered to the students in Prague. It woke up the dormant intellectual elites, however, it did not overcome the supremacy of romantic ideas of Friedrich Schlegel which triumphed in the Austrian monarchy of the middle of the 19th century.Item G. E. Lessing „Ernst und Falk. Gespräche für Freimäurer" - Hauptpositionen der Rezeption bis 1933(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Dziergwa, RomanThe most important evidence of an intensive influence of this outstanding humanistic work of Lessing beyond the free-mason milieu was the creative reception of free-masonic conversations by Herder, Friedrich Schlegel, and Fichte. Already in the early phase of reception this work was used for the radical political goals in the Enlightenment ideology of the Order of llluminates by Adam Weishaupt. Another variant of ideological-political instrumentalization was the revolutionary-socialist reception among the German communists who lived as emigrants in Paris. The fundamental trend of this reception was undertaken and developed by the later Marxist interpreters (Mehring). Ideological one-sidedness of this kind of reception was relativized by the authors of works on the study of literature who presented more varied and balanced opinions.Item Reinhold Schneider und der Nationalsozialismus(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Nowak, RomanThis article is an attempt at the presentation of the writer's silhouette in the period 1933-1945 against the background of the then historiosophic, philosophic, ideological and political conceptions. At the same time it is an outline of the writer's way to the conservatively conditioned concept of ,,forms of life" to the conception of "the conscience of time", from the idea of ruthless fight for the perfectness of the form of state to the active opposition of its attitude in the Third Reich.Item Überlegungen zur expressionistischen Prosa im Kontext des expressionistischen Epochenbegriffs(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Machońko, MariaThe article presents the state of art in the field of studies on the expressionist prose within the context of a concept of "the expressionist epoch" which raises controversies. It is a survey of methodological attitudes which were assumed by research workers belonging to various methodological schools and various scientific generations towards the expressionist prose. The result of the discussed studies consists in the fundamental controversy between the wish to resolve to univocality which accompanies every interpretation and recognition of this which is ambiguous, insinuated in the expressionist prose. The article emphasizes the necessity of verification of the statements and generalizations applied and of enriching the criteria of analysis and evaluation of the discussed prose.Item „Weiter leben und doch nicht Sieger sein": Elias Canettis existentiell-poetologisches Selbstverständnis als „Tod-Feind" und „Hüter der Verwandlungen"(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Przybecki, MarekThis text is an attempt at rationalization of as it would seem - an irrational poetological conception of Canetti expounded in the essay „The profession of a poet“. Anthropological thought of the author of „Crowds and Power“ in which man appears as a being possessed by the greed of power felt in the most perceivable way at the moment of experiencing the deaths of other beings - there is a collision with the poet's vision whose main task is according to Canetti opposing all power and all violence born in the field of social influence of death. Hostility towards death is not therefore a theoretical gesture of mutiny in Canetti against an inevitable dying of cells, but an expression of the rational rejection of the process of social domestication of death. The remedy to this phenomenon is perceived by Canetti in the ability inborn in a primitive man and lost in the process of civilization to metamorphosis which ability the writer should just develop in himself and in others, taking from the reservoir of human experiences contained in myths and in old literary works.Item Zum Canettischen Literaturbegriff. Von der Topie zur Expressiven Kultur(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Mausch, KrzysztofThe autbor reconstructs Canetti's conception of literature on the basis of his essays. This conception was developed in 1936. At its base there is a genetically anthropological conception. Canetti calls in question the immediate moral influence of literature, and what follows its specific role. In Canetti's conception of literature a desideratum is contained of a new vision of culture - expressive culture.Item Zur Rezeption der Dramen von Friedrich Schiller im geteilten Polen. Schillers Dramen auf den Bühnen in Warschau in den Jahren 1803-1918(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 1993) Cabańska-Czekańska, MałgorzataAnalysis of the process of theoretical reception of F. Schiller's dramas in Warsaw during the partitions is a part of an extensive study on all forms of reception of dramas of the German classic author in Polish circles of readers in Poland at about 1800 and until the recent times. The history of staging Schiller's dramas was in the Russian partition most strongly influenced by the political factor, like for instance, the context of both national uprisings (positive factor) and the repressions of the Tsarist authorities resulting from them. The decisive influence on the position of F. Schiller's drama in the theatres of Warsaw was the activity of W. Bogusławski and the eminent actors as well as literary refinement of Polish magnates, noblemen and powerful intelligentsia.
