Item Angewandte Literaturwissenschaft – Überlegungen zu Perspektiven einer Germanistik der Zukunft(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Wolting, StephanRecently there is a big discussion about the sense and nonsense of what we called the former philology, especially in the field of German studies. The author tries to focus his consideration of German literature on the importance of studying German literature in future and what this subject can get a special use for certain sustainability and facilities. He points out some ways in which we can deal with that in future as students, but as teachers too.Item Der Glaube wird Berge versetzen – und kulturelle Grenzen überwinden. Ein Beitrag zum interreligiösen Lernen(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) UTRI, REINHOLDReligion as a part of culture has similarities to language: it is characteristic for nearly every individual. As there are processes of interculturality (contact of different cultures) there are also processes of inter-religiosity. On the examples of John Paul II. and Benedict XVI. the author explains the development and the theological background of the growing dialogue between religions. Although the differences are often a base for conflicts, there are many (worldwide) interreligious movements that are exemplary and therefore worth discussing.Item Deutsch als Fremdsprache, ökokratisches Konzept(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Skowronek, BarbaraAccording to F. Grucza’s anthropocentric conception of language, learning a foreign language consists in the acquisition and reconstruction of linguistic knowledge by learners, therefore nobody can be taught a language. Relations between languages can take the form of interrelations or transrelations. Does the prestige of a particular language influence the motivation or demotivation for learning it? Putnam’s theory of meaning combines such ingredients as the individual language experience world and social practice, all of which are ignored or downplayed by traditional theorizing about meaning. This article outlines some important aspects of Putnam’s idea and tries to answer the question of whether the stereotype semantics can solve the problem of meaning.Item Ecolinguistic approach to foreign language teaching on the example of English(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Wiertlewska, JaninaThe paper deals with the problem of balance maintenance of natural languages in the context of foreign language teaching. A new paradigm of foreign language teaching in the following triad: native language – global language – second foreign language is proposed. Translingualism is treated as the only means of maintaining linguistic balance between natural languages viewed from an ecolinguistic perspective.Item Informal talks about writing as a constructive way to develop young L2 learner print awareness(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Zawodniak, JoannaThe article examines the possibilities of fostering young L2 learner print awareness via teaching for conversing about and reflecting on writing. In order to achieve this goal the present author conducted the qualitative research on a group of 2nd-graders engaged in the performance of a series of open-ended L2 written tasks accompanied by L1 cues. The analysis of collected data shows that drawing children’s conscious attention to writing might encourage the constructive transferability of linguistic skills from L1 to L2, thus being conducive to the development of logical thinking necessary for the enhancement of their print awareness.Item Lexikalische Kompetenz – ein Plädoyer für eine breitere Auffassung des Begriffs(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Targońska, JoannaThe subject of the present paper is the notion of ‘lexical competence’. This type of competence is often analysed in a too narrow sense, although over the years the notion has been broadened. Since in the Author’s opinion the definition of lexical competence should include not only the knowledge about vocabulary or its usage, but also the ability to compensate for lexical gaps, a new, slightly broader definition has been formulated and the factors were presented which may influence its developmentItem Mixed Methods and Action Research: similar or different?(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Wiśniewska, DanutaThis article attempts to analyse and compare ELT studies grounded solely in mixed methods and ELT action research studies based on a mixed methods approach in order to identify to what degree action research studies combining different methods in a single study comply with the principles of rigorous mixed methods study.Item Problems and challenges in teaching and learning speaking at advanced level(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Aleksandrzak, MagdalenaThe article deals with the problems of teaching and learning speaking, in particular those which are most relevant in the context of developing oral skills at the advanced level of foreign language proficiency. It goes without saying that a teacher who teaches his mother tongue is expected to teach it as completely and correctly as possible. Yet the complete and correct teaching of any language depends on the teacher’s complete and correct knowledge of the given language and, comes to that, his awareness of this knowledge. It could be shown and proven on various examples that this aim can only be reached by the way of analyzing an other / a foreign language and comparing it with the language / the mother tongue to be teached, that, as much as paradoxical this may sound, self-understanding quite often needs the understanding of the other.Item Zum Einsatz von authentischem Quellenmaterial im Fremdsprachenunterricht am Beispiel von Fernsehnachrichten(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2011) Mac, AgnieszkaThis article attempts to qualify the work with authentic source material such as TV news in foreign language teaching.
