Item 6-latek jako pierwszoklasista w szkole. Zróżnicowanie kodów językowych dziecka, rodziny i szkoły – dla kogo szansa, dla kogo zagrożenie?(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2013) Matejczuk, Joanna; Nowotnik, Anna; Rękosiewicz, MałgorzataThe article offers another view in the discourse concerning the lowering of school age. We take into consideration the consequences of children’s diversity in terms of the language functioning for their needs, opportunities, and ways to deal with school reality. Our analysis is based on Basil Bernstein’s concept of linguistic codes (1980a and 1980b). Such an interpretation of the phenomenon aims to help to identify the role of the school’s effi ciency of language codes management targeted at six-year-olds. Our aim is to identify the key challenges and tasks facing the school in dealing with the admission and teaching of children with diverse linguistic skills.Item 6-latki ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi na starcie szkolnym. Studium różnicy płci w kontekście reformy oświaty(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2013) Buchnat, Marzena; Chmura-Rutkowska, IwonaInitiators of the most socially negotiated changes under the current reform of the education system, including the lowering of school age to 6, indicate “bridging the education gap” as one of the advantages of an earlier education. In fact, there is no critical refl ection and discussion on how the education system responds to the diversity of children’s needs and identifi ed areas and risk factors of educational failures on the threshold of school. In the text we pay special attention to two important issues overlooked in the ministerial discourse: a risk factor for school failure defi ned as special educational needs (SEN) and the problem of differentiation of the level of preparedness, experience and school achievements of children based on gender, with particular regard to socioemotional development.Item A Comparative Look on the Dropping out of Adolescents in Situations of Risk from the Bedouin Educational System in the Negev(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Abu Ajaj, IbraheemThe phenomenon of dropping out of students from the educational system in Israel has been stead-ily increasing in recent years. Many research studies that addressed the phenomenon of dropping out indicated an increase in the percentage of students dropping out from the Bedouin educational system in the Negev. The present research study examines the tendency to drop out of adolescents in situations of risk in the recognized Bedouin communities in comparison to adolescents in situations of risk in the unrecognized Bedouin communities with regard to different demographic variables and the involvement of the parents. These adolescents are daily exposed to emotional and social difficulties and do not receive adequate research attention. The issue of the dropping out of adolescents is an acute problem with considerable significance in the Arab sector in general and in the Bedouin communities in particular. The research study examines the situation today, the situation of the adolescents who are dropping out, their problems, and the reasons that led them to dropping out, in a comparison between the two types of Bedouin communities. The research findings will indicate possible ways for the reduction of the multidimensional phenomenon of dropping out. In light of the large gaps that exist between the educational system in Jewish society and the educational system in Bedouin society, the research study emphasizes that there is a direct impact on the Bedouin educational system, which directly influences the dropping out of students from the educational system in general and the dropping out of students in situations of risk. The sample consisted of 90 adolescents in situations of risk, 45 adolescents from recognized communities and 45 adolescents from unrecognized communities from different schools. In light of the examination of the research findings, it appears that the involvement of the parents influences the drooping out significantly. This finding indicates the importance of parental involvement in the school and its importance for the future of the children. In other words, a Bedouin child with an involved family will likely remain in the educational framework, while a Bedouin child whose parents are disconnected from his studies has increased chances to drop out of the educational system.Item A New Way to View Perceptions of the Quality of Life of Families Who Have a Child With Tourette Syndrome(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2015) Khoury, RitaThe purpose of this study was to gather data from the families of children with Tourette Syndrome (TS), in order to examine the extent to which the existence of a child with TS in the family affected their Family Quality of Life (FQOL). The research was conducted according to the mixed methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Data was collected from 25 families of children with TS. The questionnaire was analyzed statistically and the interviews were analyzed using a content analysis method. Conclusions derived from the research findings allowed the development of the ACEIST model, including five new sub-domains of FQOL that reflect the experiences of the studied families: advocacy, cooperation, explanation, information, and the severity of TS. This is a new way to view the FQOL of families who have a child with TS which is very precise, functional and family-specific. This ACEIST model fills the knowledge gap in this field, contributing to our knowledge regarding the FQOL of families who have a child with TS. The new model has practical implications for education as well as social and health policies in Israel regarding families who have a child with TS.Item A Professional Learning Community as a Factor of the Professional Development of Teachers(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2017) Magrafta, GalitThe article presents the importance of the professional learning community in the school framework. It discusses the creation of a learning community, its characteristics, advantages, and the challenges in the leadership and establishment of a professional learning community. In addition, the article presents the importance of the introduction of a learning community into educational frameworks and provides a solution to the resources that pertain to the time or systemic flexibility. This article highlights the importance of collaborations, peer learning, and a productive discourse among teacher colleagues.Item Access to Higher Education – From the Orientation to Elite Through Democratization to Parentocracy(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Sobczak, AnnaThe article aims to describe the changes that have taken place in access to higher education over the years. The author began her reflectionsfrom ancient times, when higher education was initiated, and ends in modern times, characterized by mass education at a higher level. The article points out that the university and higher education system has undergone many transformations over the centuries, and elite studies have evolved into egalitarian ones. The phenomenon of parentocracy, which is more and more common in the current conditions of general education in higher schools, is also discussed.Item Adolescents At-Risk in the Situation of Transition: Assistance Programs in the Israeli Educational System(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2015) Vaxberg, ZivitAdolescents at-risk are defined as adolescents who may be found in physical, mental, or emotional situations of risk. Most of them come from dysfunctional families, poverty, or delinquent social environment. Their problems are expressed mainly in the emotional, educational, social and behavioral realms and lead them to absences from school, low educational achievements, behavior problems, and social difficulties. These problems increase dramatically in the phase of transition from middle school to high school. This transition is characterized primarily by: (a) change from a familiar, intimate place to a large, strange, and anonymous place, (b) change of role – from being the oldest pupil to being the youngest one, and (c) separation from significant adults and friends. The Israeli educational system has developed special assistance programs for the transition phase of adolescents at-risk. These programs operate in two parallel and complementary dimensions. During school time, there are special programs such as psychodrama groups which are aimed at strengthening the learners’ perseverance and increasing their success in the normative frameworks. After the school hours, the programs provide them with activities such as mental support and help in their homework preparation.Item Adultyzm – uprzedzenia przeciwko młodym ludziom(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2017) Jankowiak, BarbaraThe article analyses adultism, or prejudice against children and young people as singled out of ageism, i.e. prejudice on grounds of age. Adultism involves a stereotypical perception of and approach to younger members of the society solely because they are young. Scientifictheories on young people and adolescence have transformed from those stressing the negative features of teenagers themselves and seeing adolescence as the “most difficult”development stage to those which highlight the potential of young people and the coming-of-age period as one of many equally important stages of life. Analysis of relevant literature and studies indicates that there is a need to fillthe gap both in the theoretical approach to adultism and in studies of prejudice against young people.Item Agnotologia pedagogiczna. Zarys problematyki. Trzy subiektywne opowieści(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2017) Kwieciński, ZbigniewThe term „agnotology” was introduced by Robert Proctor. Agnotology is the study on the spread of ignorance, its social scope and impact, causes and effects. The author tried to analyze whether it is possible that ignorance is disseminated by schools, the principal institution of the Enlightenment, i.e. not only of equipping invididuals with broad knowledge, but of taking care of each individual’s ability to judge (critical thinking). The author discusses three examples of deliberate structural changes to indicate that school „reforms” may bring about effects opposite to the intended ones, have an offside effect of belated imitation and widespread side effects, which destroy the entire education system.Item Agresja rówieśnicza wobec uczniów ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi w relacjach pracowników poradni psychologiczno-pedagogicznych(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2014) Plichta, Piotr; Olempska-Wysocka, MagdalenaThe article presents the results of a research carried out among fifteen employees of psychological and pedagogical counseling centers from the Łódź area. The study examined the level of their knowledge on the subject of spreading the forms of peer victimization towards children with special educational needs. The analysis of the partially structured interviews clearly indicates that the respondents were aware of a high number of such incidents, yet their knowledge is mostly acquired informally or indirectly, while they were working on other educational challenges. It is clear that instances of peer victimization are rarely reported officially to the counseling centers. The range of supportive actions that were implemented is mostly limited to and focused on the victims. The respondents appeared pessimistic as to their assessment of the effectiveness of the preventative and prophylactic measures implemented by schools and counseling centers. The results presented in the article map out the direction the counseling centers should take in order to support schools in their efforts to prevent peer victimization. Undoubtedly, there is a clear need to shift to a more proactive role in diagnosing the school situation of children with special educational needs and to precisely assess the risk of their victimization. The respondents emphasized a need for more complex and systematic measures in this area.Item Aksjologiczne barwy światów dziecka we współczesnym polskim filmie fabularnym(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2014) Brzezińska, AnnaNow that the audiovisual culture is evolving, films seem to be a source of various stories about us and our world and of certain models that we follow. Film, as a discursive element of pop culture, calls for a search for answers to some most ambiguous questions regarding the axiological colours of the child’s worlds. The aim of these considerations is to recognize and describe the axiological dimension of the child’s world in contemporary Polish cinema, using films by Dorota Kędzierzawska as examples. The child’s worlds, unobvious due to axiological chaos, are shown. Presenting ordinary, everyday children characters in different moments of their lives is supposed to encourage the challenge of scientific reflection on childhood in the modern world.Item Amerykańskie i angielskie wzory strategii awersywnych(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2012) Muskała, MaciejThis paper presents examples of activities referring to aversive strategies applied in USA: boot camps and England: High-Intensity Training HIT. It introduces general assumptions and principles operating this penitentiary systems as well as critically evaluates the reasonability of its application.Item Analiza metodyki postępowania w procesach rekrutacji pracowników naukowych(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2017) Walczak, WaldemarThe purpose of this article is to present a multifaceted analysis concerning methodology proceedin-gs in recruitment procedures for researchers. Theoretical considerations are complemented by concusions of an empirical study. The role of scientificinstitutions and values applicable in the scientificcommunity in light of popularized theories are analyzed first.Additionally, reference is made to the principles enshrined in the code of ethics of Poland’s National Research and Development Centre. Then are discussed recommended patterns of conduct which have been recorded in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, paying particu-lar attention to issues relating to openness and fairness of proceedings and equal treatment. The next part of the work discusses legal regulations applicable to the employment of academics at Polish universities. It looks closely into the differences that apply to employees at public and private universities, which can be considered from the point of view of legal provisions relating to the prin-ciple of equal treatment enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. The subsequent part of study is devoted to the conclusions of an empirical study covering the compe-tition proceedings relating to the employment of academic staff at public universities. The methodo-logy of the examination procedure is thoroughly explained and interim research questions concerning the specific issues and problems closely related to the analyzed subject are presentedItem Analyzing Stories from Canadian Academic Writing Instructors: A Collaborative Autoethnography(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Garbati, Jordana; Samuels, BobaWriting instruction in Canadian universities takes a variety of forms. While there are few formal departments for writing studies, many institutions do have a writing centre – a place that offers writing instruction to varying degrees. The writing centre may be housed within a department, a library, or within a student services unit. Its position within a university may indicate the degree to which writing is valued by the administrative body. The goal of our paper is to share insights into the ways that writing professionals perceive, work in, and adapt to current demands for writing instruction in higher education. Using a collaborative ethnographic approach, three scholars at different career stages explore their experiences with writing centre work. Using data consisting of individually written reflections, our analysis revealed four major themes: (a) initial experience with writing centres, (b) community, (c) frustrations and tensions at work, and (d) mentorship. In this paper, we discuss our findings within the framework of positioning theory in order to understand how we position ourselves as scholars, mentors, and educators, and how we are positioned by others within the fields of writing studies and higher education. This study raises awareness about the value of writing centre professionals’ contributions, the place of mentorship within higher education, and the support required for continued writing centre work.Item ANDRZEJ KUSZTELAK (RED.), Polityka edukacyjna i oświatowa w polityce społecznej. Social pedagogues employed in schools and teachers have to deal with emotions on a daily basis, and so they need to be emotionally intelligent. According to Goleman, major components of emotional intelligence include the awareness of our emotions, managing our own emotions, motivating ourselves, recognizing the emotions of others, empathy, and relationships management. Emotional intelligence in the context of schooling relates to the emotional side of teaching, such as the ability to recognize, define and manage pupils’ emotions, to motivate them and to handle interpersonal relationships in the classroom. Emotional competency is the efficacy in social situations with an emotional content. In the article we present an empirically designed study based on data collected in a questionnaire designed for the aim of the study. The research sample includes 108 persons dealing with school pupils on a daily basis; 56 of them are teachers and 52 social pedagogues, employed in the school advisory service. The aim of the study was to investigate how often teachers and social pedagogues use different approaches, methods and techniques for developing the emotional competency of pupils in the classroom. In the article the findings are discussed within the school context and some implications are provided for the higher education of teachers and social pedagogues.Item Architektura i funkcje ogrodu przedszkolnego w opiniach nauczycieli(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2013) Klichowska, AnnaThe main objective of this article is the diagnosis of preschool gardens and their functions in the opinion of teachers.
