The poetics of hatred in Austrian literature based on selected works
Abstract
Die Dissertation unter dem Titel Poetik des Hasses in der österreichischen Literatur am Beispiel ausgewählter Werke setzt sich zum Ziel, den literarischen Umgang mit dem Phänomen Hass am Beispiel ausgewählter Werke nachzuzeichnen. Im Zentrum des Interesses stehen Gegenwartstexte der österreichischen Literatur mit einem Rückblick auf die Verankerung dieses Motivs in der österreichischen Tradition. Den Ausgangspunkt der Forschung bildet der Versuch einer Begriffsbestimmung unter Beachtung von historischen, anthropologischen, sozialwissenschaftlichen und psychoanalytischen Aspekten. Analysiert wurden vier Arten von Hass (Österreichhass, Sprachhass, Fremdenhass und Geschlechterhass). Dem theoretischen Teil folgt Kapitel 3., das den Hass bzw. die ambivalente Hassliebe auf das eigene Vaterland thematisiert. In dem nächsten Kapitel wird der sprachphilosophische Diskurs im Hinblick auf den Sprachhass behandelt. Kapitel 5. diskutiert den literarischen Umgang mit dem Fremden als Figur des Hasses. Kapitel 6. dagegen behandelt die Problematik des Geschlechterhasses. Ausgewählt wurden sowohl Romane als auch Dramen, was der Veranschaulichung dienen sollte, dass Hass sowohl auf erzählerische als auch konfrontative Weise zur Sprache gebracht werden kann.
Rozprawa doktorska, której tytuł przełożony na język polski brzmi Poetyka nienawiści w literaturze austriackiej na przykładzie wybranych utworów stanowi pierwszą w literaturoznawstwie austriackim próbę prześledzenia sposobów literackiego obcowania ze zjawiskiem nienawiści na przykładzie wybranych utworów współczesnej literatury austriackiej, z równoczesnym uwzględnieniem zakotwiczenia tego zjawiska w tradycji myśli i estetyki austriackiej. Praca składa się z pięciu części merytorycznych, rozważania otwiera teoretyczny wstęp określającego metodologię literaturoznawczego postępowania, część zasadniczą stanowią analizy poszczególnych rodzajów nienawiści w oparciu o tematycznie wyselekcjonowane powieści i sztuki teatralne reprezentatywnych dla tematyki pisarzy austriackich, całość zamykają wnioski końcowe uzasadniające stosowność obranych metod badawczych i sumujące wyniki analiz poszczególnych segmentów literaturoznawczej eksploracji motywu nienawiści. Analizie poddane zostały cztery rodzaje nienawiści: nienawiść do Austrii, jako do kraju o nie do końca określonej tożsamości, nienawiść wymierzona przeciwko językowi, jako niedoskonałemu i narażonemu na manipulację instrumentowi komunikacji międzyludzkiej, nienawiść w stosunku do wszelkich objawów obcości reprezentowanych przez osoby i grupy społeczne o innych niż austriackie korzeniach, tradycjach i obyczajach oraz nienawiść atakująca przedstawicieli płci przeciwnej.
The PhD thesis entitled “The poetics of hatred in Austrian literature based on selected works” is the first in the Austrian literary studies attempt to trace the ways of literary communing with the phenomenon of hatred on the basis of selected works of contemporary Austrian literature, with considering simultaneously the embedding of this phenomenon in the tradition of Austrian thought and aesthetic. The work consists of five substantial parts. It begins with a theoretical introduction describing methodology of conducting literary studies. The main part consists of the analysis of certain types of hatred based on the thematically selected novels and dramas representative for the topics covered by Austrian writers. The thesis closes with the conclusion justifying the appropriateness of the chosen research methods and summing up the results of the analysis of individual segments of the literary study of the motive of hatred. Four types of hatred were analysed: hatred towards Austria as the country of not completely stated identity, hatred towards the language as imperfect and prone to manipulation instrument of interpersonal communication, hatred towards any signs of alienation represented by individuals and social groups of different than Austrian roots, traditions and customs, and the last category of hatred towards the other sexes.
