The causes, course and consequences of the Russian-Georgian conflict in August 2008 (War 08.08.08. Which has not shaken the world)

Abstract

Prezentowana rozprawa doktorska, dotyczy konfliktu z sierpnia 2008 roku, stronami, którego, z jednej strony były siły zbrojne Rosji oraz separatystycznych regionów Gruzji, Abchazji i tzw. Osetii Południowej, a z drugiej siły zbrojne Gruzji. Rozdział ten zatytułowałem; „Pytania i odpowiedzi”.
Presented dissertation concerns the conflict from August 2008, the parties, which, on the one side were the armed forces of Russia and Georgia's breakaway regions; Abkhazia and the so-called. South Ossetia, on the other side armed forces of Georgia. Dissertation does not focus on only the most active phase of this conflict (From 7-th to 12-th of August 2008), but attempts to present the historical reasons for this, as it turns out centuries of confrontation. As usually happens in history, the war itself is only the culmination of lengthy and complex process, and that's part of this complex and lengthy process, discusses the first chapter, entitled "Historical background of the conflict." Modern period of "coexistence", which immediately preceded the outbreak of war, are discussed in three sections titled: "Bloody perestroika", "War in Abkhazia" and "How Russia was preparing the war in Georgia." The second chapter discusses the size, level of preparation, and weaponry of the conflict. In the third chapter, on the war itself, was taken to the task to present as accurately as possible, day after day, hour after hour, the order of these dramatic events. The fourth chapter examines the consequences of conflict, the territorial losses or material sites and changes in the armed forces, taking into account the experience of the last war. In the fifth chapter of that work, I tried to find answers to a few, in my opinion the most important questions related to the Russian-Georgian conflict. This chapter is titled, "Questions and Answers." Appendix is an attempt to show that conflict, from the human side. To have a close view of how war really looks like, to understand it, it is not enough to read cold numbers, dates and descriptions of arms, to have a global view on the war is also necessary to read reports of eyewitnesses and direct participants of the events.
