Suffering and TRUST – philosophy of wonder in the perspective of the dichotomy of attitudes towards Transcendence
Abstract
Celem niniejszej dysertacji jest analiza zagadnienia cierpienia w perspektywie dwóch fundamentalnych postaw wobec życia: buntu i pokory oraz poszukiwanie wymiaru metafizycznej UFNOŚCI, który dokonuje próby przezwyciężenia doświadczenia cierpienia. Ważnym odniesieniem staje się interpretacja Księgi Hioba. Doświadczenie cierpienia zostaje wyrażone terminem wydarzenie cierpienia, co jest konsekwencją przekonania, że cierpienie ma zawsze charakter unikatowy, niepowtarzalny i stanowi de facto niewyrażalne doświadczenie konkretnej egzystencji. Próba eksplikacji tego wydarzenia w refleksji filozoficznej wymaga więc skorzystania ze swoistego języka, dlatego autor dysertacji sięga do myśli Abrahama Joshua Heschela i w poczuciu „tego, co niewysłowione” prowadzi badania w ramach tzw. filozofii zadziwienia. Projekt rozprawy – składający się z pięciu części – opiera się na konstrukcji rzeczowej badanego tematu i przyjmuje biegunową strukturę. Reakcja na doświadczenie cierpienia dzieli się na dwie dychotomiczne postawy: buntu i pokory, które uzyskują swoją pełną tożsamość jedynie wobec Transcendencji, i determinują podział na filozofię buntu i filozofię pokory. Próba przezwyciężenia cierpienia doprowadza do sformułowania koncepcji apriorycznej afirmacji istnienia ukazanej jako źródło umożliwiające postawę UFNOŚCI, która w wymiarze duchowym może uzyskać stan UFNOŚCI w Bogu.
The aim of the following dissertation is to analyse the concept of suffering in the perspective of two fundamental attitudes towards life: rebellion and obedience, and to search the metaphysical dimension of TRUST which tries to overcome the experience of suffering. An important reference is The Book of Job. An experience of suffering is termed as the event of suffering, and it comes from the reasoning that each act of suffering is unique, inimitable. The attempt of explicating this event in the realm of philosphical reflection requires, therefore, that the author uses a unique language and builds his premises on the thoughts of Abraham Joshua Heschel and the sense of “inexpressable”, carrying on research in the so-called philosophy of wonder. The doctoral project comprises five parts and is based on the construct of the researched matter and has got a polar structure. The reaction to the experience of suffering is divided into two dichotomic attitudes which are rebellion and obedience. Both of them can only be fully identified when they are confronted with Transendence, An attempt to overcome suffering leads to formulating the concept of the apriorical affirmation of the existence which is presented as the source for the attittude of TRUST, which can be expressed by the state of TRUST in God in its spiritual domain.
