The Reception of the Cassubian Bible Translations in the Cassubian Cultural Environment. A Historical and Contextual Study
Abstract
Rozprawa doktorska podejmuje nowatorskie zagadnienie, dotychczas nie opracowane ani w literaturze polsko- ani obcojęzycznej. Jej celem jest ukazanie recepcji przekładów Biblii na kaszubski w okresie od XVI do XXI wieku. Badany obszar recepcji zawężono do kaszubskiego kręgu kulturowego, jako pierwszorzędnego środowiska oddziaływania tych przekładów. Teksty, których recepcję odnotowano pochodziły zarówno z środowiska ewangelickiego, zasadniczo z okresu XVI-XIX w. i ze środowiska katolickiego (XX-XXI w.). W Kościele ewangelicko-augsburskim autorami przekładów byli m.in. Sz. Krofej, M. Pontanus i Sporgius i inni anonimowi tłumacze, a w Kościele rzymskokatolickim translacji Biblii na kaszubski, które doczekały się wydania drukiem, dokonali: E. Gołąbek, ks. F. Grucza i o. A. R. Sikora OFM. Przekłady te w miarę upływu czasu zaczęły oddziaływać w różnych obszarach kręgu kulturowego Kaszub, znajdując swój oddźwięk w przestrzeni religijnej, naukowej, literackiej, muzycznej, a także w szeroko rozumianych środkach masowego przekazu. Kaszubskie przekłady biblijne stały się istotnym elementem kręgu kulturowego, choć w różnym stopniu są w nim obecne. Analizom poddano wszystkie najważniejsze publikacje na opracowywany temat, informujące o zakresie i stopniu recepcji tekstów świętych po kaszubsku w obszarze religijnym, naukowym, kulturowym i medialnym. Przeprowadzone analizy pozwoliły stwierdzić znaczący wpływ Biblii kaszubskiej na wspomniane obszary i jednocześnie pozwoliły zaobserwować ciągle postępującą dynamikę ich oddziaływania na kaszubski krąg kulturowy. Sformułowany temat pracy mieści się w ramach jednej z biblijnych metod badawczych – Wirkungsgeschichte, czyli badań nad oddziaływaniem Biblii w różnych obszarach życia religijnego i społecznego.
The doctoral dissertation entitled "The Reception of the Cassubian Bible Translations in the Cassubian Cultural Environment. A Historical and Contextual Study" is the first attempt to analyse this phenomenon ever undertaken in the Polish or foreign research. The aim of this study is to present the way various Bible translations were received between the 16th and the 21st century. The geographical limit of the research is the area of the Cassubian cultural influence as it was the region were the translations made the most significant impact. The source material presented in the paper comes from both the Protestant (16th - 19th century) and the Catholic (20th-21st century) background. In the Lutheran Church the translators were Sz. Krofej, M. Pontanus, Sporgius and other anonymous authors. On the other hand, the Catholic translators whose works have been published are: E. Gołąbek, Rev. F. Grucza and Fr A. R. Sikora OFM. As the time was passing by, the consecutive Bible translations were having a significant impact on the cultural life in the Cassubia region and they influenced such areas as religion, research activity, literature, music and mass media with its wider context. The Bible translations have turned out to be a vital element of the Cassubian cultural activity; however, their level of importance was varied. All the relevant secondary sources that account for the range and level of influence of the Scripture translations in the Cassubian religious, scientific, cultural and mass-media activity have been analysed. The analyzes made it possible to identify the significant influence of the Cassubian Bible on these areas, and at the same time allowed to observe the ever-increasing dynamics of their influence on the Cassubian Cultural Environment. The title of the paper corresponds with one of the biblical methodologies - the "Wirkungsgeschichte" - that is the research which focuses on the influence of the Scripture in various areas of the religious and social life.
