Modification of polymer membranes and their application for removal of pollutants from liquid phases
Abstract
jednymi z bardziej efektywnych metod usuwania
zanieczyszczeń z fazy ciekłej.
W ramach niniejszej rozprawy dokonano syntezy 4
membran polimerowych na bazie octanu celulozy
modyfikowanych polimerem porotwórczym, jakim
był poliwinylopirolidon. Otrzymane membrany
zastosowano w procesach usuwania barwników
organicznych, takich jak tartrazyna, żółcień
pomarańczowa, oranż metylowy, zieleń brylantowa
oraz błękit metylenowy. Otrzymane membrany
poddano badaniom właściwości fizykochemicznych.
Uzyskane rezultaty pozwoliły
stwierdzić, że filtracja membranowa z
zastosowaniem membran polimerowych jest
skuteczną metodą usuwania barwników
organicznych z roztworów wodnych.
The continuing development of the broadly understood industry and the increasing tempo of urbanization as well as improvement in the standard of living contribute to the increased emission of pollutants. The contaminants entering the ground and surface waters, causing irreversible changes in the aquatic ecosystem, include heavy metals, dyes, pesticides or other organic compounds. The presence of dyes, originating among others from the textile, tanning, cosmetics or food industry causes the destruction of flora of water tanks and may also led to changes in organisms inhabiting of those water tanks. The consumption of water containing molecules of dyes may cause irreversible changes in the human body, such as cancer, allergic reactions or hyperactivity. Therefore, it is important to reduce the release of this type of compounds into the environment. In order to remove pollution, efficient methods are being sought. A chance of minimizing the problem is the usage of membrane techniques which is one of the most relevant method of removing impurities from the liquid phase. As part of this dissertation, 4 polymer membranes based on cellulose acetate modified with a poreforming polymer like polyvinylpyrrolidone were synthesized. The obtained membranes were used in the removal of organic dyes represented by tartrazine, sunset yellow, methyl orange, brilliant green and methylene blue. The membranes were tested in terms of their physical and chemical properties. The results contributed to a statement that membrane filtration and the usage of polymer membranes is an effective method of removing organic dyes from aqueous solutions.
