The motif of death in contemporary German language literature for children and young adults. Its role in the context of extending the knowledge of culture and improving language skills of a student.

Abstract
Celem dysertacji jest zebranie, systematyzacja i analiza realistycznych współczesnych niemieckojęzycznych utworów dla dzieci i młodzieży, których motywem przewodnim jest śmierć i umieranie, a także analiza wybranego utworu w celu wykazania, że ten typ literatury przyczynia się do poszerzania wiedzy o kulturze w szerokim tego słowa znaczeniu oraz stanowi istotny wkład w rozwijanie i doskonalenie sprawności językowych ucznia na lekcji języka niemieckiego jako obcego. Do analizy wybrano 38 pozycji. Przy wyborze literatury podmiotu uwzględniono cztery kryteria: kryterium motywu, pochodzenia, czasu powstania oraz rodzaju. Po pierwsze wybrano wyłącznie teksty z motywem śmierci, po drugie książki niemieckojęzyczne pochodzące z niemieckiego obszaru językowego, po trzecie literaturę współczesną, to znaczy od 1975 roku, i utwory realistyczne. Uzyskane dane przedstawione zostały w skali procentowej w formie wykresów. Analizę jakościową przeprowadzono w oparciu o książkę obrazkową dla dzieci Jutty Bauer pt. Opas Engel. Pojęcie kultury obejmuje tu wiele aspektów życia, mianowicie historię Niemiec, szkołę, przyjaciół, czas wolny i sposoby spędzania czasu wolnego, pracę, warunki życia oraz śmierć. Okazuje się, że literatura z motywem śmierci niesie ze sobą ogromny potencjał struktur leksykalnych i gramatycznych, które zostały zebrane w formie tabelarycznej i wnikliwie przeanalizowane.
The aim of the dissertation is to collect, structure and analyse contemporary realist German language works for children and young adults the leading motif in which is death and dying, as well as the analysis of a selected work in order to demonstrate that this type of literature contributes to extending the knowledge of widely-defined culture and is a significant contribution to the development and improvement of student’s language skills during lessons of German as a foreign language. Thirty eight titles were selected for the analysis. In the selection of literature on the subject four criteria were taken into consideration: the criterion of motif, origin, time of writing, and genre. Firstly, only texts with the motif of death were selected, secondly – German language books from the German language area, thirdly – contemporary literature, that is since 1975 and realist works. The data were presented in the percentage scale in the form of diagrams. The qualitative analysis was carried out on the basis of a picture book for children Opas Engel by Jutta Bauer. The cultural aspect of it encompasses German history, school, friends, leisure time and leisure activities, work, living conditions and death. It turns out that literature with a motif of death has great potential for lexical and grammatical structures, which have been collected in tabular form and thoroughly analyzed.
