    On forming key competences within the ICT–supported instruction in higher education

    The paper presents research results of the two-year pedagogical experiment comparing test scores in three subjects (Database Systems, Management, IT English) taught either in the ICTsupported way or in the traditional face-to-face way at the Faculty of Informatics and Management, University of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. The main research objective was to find out whether the ICT contribute to increasing learners’ knowledge and consequently to forming key competences. Didactic tests as the main tool were used within the pedagogical experiment which followed the “pre-test – instruction – post-test – post-test2” structure. The research sample included 687 respondents. The results obtained proved there were no statistically significant differences in learners’ knowledge in both approaches to teaching/learning. The results were discussed from two important points of view: (1) teachers’ and learners’ IT competences in teaching/learning and (2) the role of teaching/learning styles. A teaching tool applicable in the ICT-supported process of instruction was provided.

    Family education in context with motivation as a factor of school – progress in adolescents

    The research study is focused on the existence of a link between family education (a preferred style of family education), the motivation level of activity performance and school success of adolescents in the educational process. The principal point of the impact of family education in context with motivation as a factor of school progress in adolescents is the dimensional component model of nine fields that specifies the style of family education. The research sample consisted of 386 respondents studying at four different grammar schools. In order to achieve our goal we used the research plan of ex post facto with an attributive independent variable. The obtained results were subjected to the descriptive and inductive statistics (ANOVA). The results are also presented in the form of tables and diagrams. Some recommendations for pedagogical theory, methodology and practice are part of our study.

    Relation of Roma to education

    This study presents selected results of a qualitative research project focused on the lifelong process of developing Roma relations to education and learning. The project was implemented as part of the doctoral dissertation entitled Socio-Andragogic Contexts of Roma Education, whose aim was to systematize existing knowledge about the nature and impact of external factors on Roma education and to draw attention to these factors as they seem to have a dominant influence on the development of Roma relationships to education and learning.

    Czynniki ryzyka rozwoju Zespołu Stresu Pourazowego u żołnierzy uczestniczących w misjach wojskowych

    The present research aimed at answering the question of effects of the chosen factors of pretraumatic, traumatic and posttraumatic period on the prevalence of the posttraumatic stress disorder in a sample of soldiers participating in military missions in Iraq and Afghanistan (N = 50). The research was conducted in a military unit of British Armed Forces in London. The outcomes of PCL-M questionnaire indicated PTSD in 56% of the subjects (N = 28). According to the analysis, the percentage of correct classification of the model taking into account the variables of trauma intensity (chi2(1) = 37.1; p < 0.01), prior traumatization (chi2(1) = 24.8; p < 0.01) and the size of the group of individuals to provide support (chi2(1) = 0.9) is estimated to be 90%. The variables with the greatest impact on the development of PTSD proved to be the intensity of the trauma and early traumatization. The size of the group of people who can provide support proved to contribute to the occurrence of PTSD in combination with the other two variables.

    Dyskurs kształcenia digitalnego. Ontologia dyskursu kształcenia digitalnego i jego funkcje

    The aim of the paper is to present the status of the learning discourse (especially forms of experimental use of educational text) in e-learning. Digital communication and digital tools (especially learner services, Internet, Web browsers) create a highly-effective and multi-dimensional learning environment. They modify the learning goals, methods and strategies, transform relationships between text and discourse, and between learning and teaching. They make education more flexible and intelligent. Digital technology used for the purpose of facilitating and supporting the educational process changes the status of the student and transforms the experience of multimedia training. It forces the student to become more creative, active and collaborative, commit himself to experiencing not only knowledge but also the learning discourse. It offers diversified and socially rich learning contexts.

    Freudowskie i lacanowskie kierunki rewizji autorytetu nauczyciela

    My paper develops the idea of the critique of traditional models of the teacher’s authority as posited by Lech Witkowski in his latest works. I want to show that the insights of psychoanalysis into man’s functioning in culture are of paramount importance for pedagogy, since they open up new possibilities of looking at the peculiarities of the educational relation. Turning to Freud and Lacan, I seek answers to the question concerning the ubiquity of a fixed model of the teacher as the Subject of Certainty and explore the ways of the psychoanalytical critique of what one could call “teachers’ typical pose of mastery”. I conclude with some propositions of what the task of critical pedagogy ought to be, given that the figure of the authoritative teacher impedes its emancipatory mission.

    Różnice w poziomie gotowości szkolnej 6-letnich dziewczynek i chłopców ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi. Komunikat z badań

    In the context of the ongoing debate about a compulsory lowering of school age, which results from the assumptions of the education system reform, we would like to pay special attention to the well-known but paradoxically rarely discussed problem of different levels of readiness, experience and school achievements of children on grounds of gender. We asked to what extent boys and girls are similar/different in terms of their school maturity level and the level of school adaptation, while taking into account the risk factors which are special educational needs (SEN). We map the research results presented on pedagogical theory and practice of school failure diagnosis and proceed to a discussion on the impact of cultural patterns of gender roles, gender stereotypes and the process of socialization and education on boys’ and girls’ preparation for school requirements.

    Criminal behaviour as a life style

    Imbedded characterized by a peculiar lack of responsibility, particularly in relation to the acts committed. Respondents clearly put the pleasure in life, but sometimes it would seem that the hierarchy of values has slightly changed (but not in all presented cases). All subjects come from pathological environments that used corporal punishment against them, so their interactions with the environment are disturbed from their earliest years of life. Many respondents adopt their own scripts of a life of a loser, often refusing to accept this state of affairs and blaming elements of the outside world for it: their environment, harsh conditions, lack of family warmth and of adequate emotional ties. Respondents evinced emotional hyperactivity (restlessness, aggression) from early age. They cause educational problems at school (truancy, drugs, minor offenses), grow to crime often in reformatories or correctional institutions and increasingly identify with criminal lifestyle.

    Sposoby radzenia sobie z negatywnymi emocjami wśród wychowanków

    In this article there will be presented conditions that lie under strategies of dealing with negative emotions taken by inmates from Polish reformatories. The techniques of negative emotions management implemented by reformatories are compared with emotional reactions popular among inmates. This article bases mainly on empirical data obtained by the use of qualitative methods. There were adopted techniques of quasi-participant observation, semi-structural interview carried among stuff and inmates and documents analysis. Research covered semiopen reformatories for girls but also semi-open, closed and under special supervision for boys.

    Mediacja w percepcji nieletnich wychowanków zakładów poprawczych – doniesienia z badań własnych

    The article presents mediation proceedings applied in juvenile court cases in Poland. It is based on my master’s thesis entitled: Mediation as a method of protection of juveniles against stigmatization. The article is divided into two sections. The first one depicts the fundamental assumptions of mediation process, the second contains a description and analysis of my own research carried out among young people from half-open penitentiaries in the region of Mazovia.

    Nieformalne związki jedno i dwupłciowe jako alternatywne formy życia małżeńsko-rodzinnego. Analiza jakości i stabilności relacji

    This thesis presents the characteristics of alternative forms of marriage and family life with special consideration of cohabitation and homosexual relations. These untraditional kinds of partnership relations are more and more common and become new socialization patterns. An analysis was carried out of the satisfaction and stability of informal same- and different sex relations and a comparison of these relations was made to the intimate relations of marriages in order to establish whether functioning in relations of this kind is as valuable as being married. Polish and foreign studies so far prove that many relation characteristics such as love, happiness, stability, quality, or communication are not very different for various sexual orientation relations. Simultaneously, a greater stability of formal relationships as compared to common law ones was indicated.

    Rola edukacyjna pomocy społecznej we wsparciu rodzin osób niepełnosprawnych psychicznie

    Mental illnesses, mental deficiencies and other functional disorders of psychological nature call for care in different fields. The medical conditions cause deficiencies often connected with an inability to fulfill basic needs, protect one’s rights and control one’s behaviour. This can have tangible and intangible effects. People with mental disorders often face discrimination and social exclusion, which might cause their marginalization. Nowadays multifaceted support for people with the above disorders is emphasized in the field of welfare and in accessing a profes-sional role. However, people who live with a person with a developmental disability are still often forgotten. These are spouses or life partners of disabled persons, their adult or minor children, parents, distant relatives or friends. The situation of families of people with a devel-opmental disability and their individual members is often very difficult and requires a thor-ough diagnosis to provide competent support. Depending on the kind of illness or disorders and their etiology, the degree of mental deficiency of a family member, one’s age or significance and role in the family, work with the family can vary. The support can have a tangible or intangible character. It can be the social work with the family and professional psychological or legal counseling. This help is granted by social welfare bodies. Of prime significance are the educa-tion of the family, support in understanding the problem which they are experiencing and providing the necessary competence to offer help to the disabled person.

    Wciąż narodowe czy już postnarodowe? Przemiany koncepcji obywatelstwa wobec doświadczenia transnarodowości

    The aim of the text is to present the category of post-national citizenship developed in relation to, or even in opposition to the earlier version of the traditional national citizenship in a liberal society. Attention is drawn to the importance of the experience of transnationalism for the development of new civic identities, transcending beyond the nation-states boundaries. The focus will be on key elements of the scientific debate on the interdependence between the national and the post-national perspective in contemporary attempts to conceptualize the category of citizenship. The increased role of post-national forms of civic participation is explained by reference to broader processes, including further individualization and emphasis on selfrealization in personal life, the creation of transnational communities, internationalization of human rights protection, as well as the transformation of the very nation-state and its range of obligations to the citizens. Moreover, the text refers to the counter-arguments against the thesis of a slow, yet inevitable weakening of the link between citizenship and nationality, including examples of legislative and administrative actions of Western states aimed at strengthening the national citizenship concept.
