Podjętym problemem badawczym było określenie efektywności oraz atrakcyjności graficznej tradycyjnych i alternatywnych metod wizualizacji kartograficznych dostępności przestrzennej o zróżnicowanej złożoności graficznej w oparciu o monocentryczny model sieci drogowej. Relacje między punktem początkowym a punktami docelowymi były rozpatrywane jako odległości euklidesowe, drogowe i czasowe. Realizacja celu postawionego w dysertacji wymagała wypracowania autorskiego schematu postępowania badawczego opartego o metody badań empirycznych i ankietowych z uwzględnieniem środków zapobiegających występowaniu efektu uczenia się. Dużo miejsca poświęcono problemowi asocjacji barwnych i doboru skal barw w prezentacji dostępności przestrzennej, na który uwagę zwracali dotąd nieliczni autorzy. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań potwierdzają wpływ czynników graficznych (podstawowy element graficzny, wymiar przestrzenny graficznej prezentacji i skala barw) i pozagraficznych (typ odległości i oddalenie od punktu początkowego) na efektywność rzeczywistą wizualizacji kartograficznych dostępności przestrzennej. Atrakcyjność graficzna tych wizualizacji jest zależna od użytych zmiennych graficznych, ale nie przekłada się ona na efektywność postrzeganą.
The aim of the study was to determine the effectiveness and graphical attractiveness of traditional and less conventional cartographic visualization methods of spatial accessibility (both graphically simple and complex) based on a monocentric road network model. The relationships between a starting point and destination points were considered as the Euclidean distance, the road distance, and the temporal distance. For the accomplishment of the purpose put in the dissertation an original pattern of research proceedings was developed. The research procedure was based on methods of survey and empirical examinations and included means preventing appearing of the learning effect. The author devoted a lot of space to the problem of color associations and the selection of color scale in the presentation of the spatial accessibility level which until now few authors paid attention to. The obtained research results confirmed that the actual effectiveness of cartographic visualization methods used to convey information about spatial accessibility is influenced by graphical factors (graphics primitive, spatial dimension of graphical presentation and color scale) and non-graphical factors (type of distance and distance from the starting point). The graphical attractiveness of these methods is dependent on visual variables, but it doesn’t have an influence on perceived effectiveness.
