Podjęte zadanie badawcze wymagało dokonania kwerendy wydawanej w archidiecezji prasy, przy czym zaznaczyć należy, że tutejszy rynek prasowy należał w okresie przed 1939 rokiem do najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijających obszarów wydawnictw prasowych i czytelnictwa w Polsce niepodległej. Przedmiotem poszukiwań badawczych były nie tylko tytuły prasowe, przeznaczone dla szerokiego odbiorcy, ale również czasopisma organizacyjne, biuletyny i gazety parafialne, publikowane w archidiecezji poznańskiej. Spośród wymienionych, na podstawie Bibliografii katolickich czasopism religijnych w Polsce, stu pięćdziesięciu tytułów nie do wszystkich udało się dotrzeć i to mimo intensywnych poszukiwań prasy w zasobach archiwów i bibliotek. Część zasobów bibliotecznych została w ciągu minionych lat zniszczona lub istotnie zdekompletowana, w wyniku czego pozostały nieliczne numery czasopism, niekompletne roczniki lub poszczególne numery, lecz na tyle zniszczone, że trudne do odczytania. Pomocne okazały się zasoby Wielkopolskiej Biblioteki Cyfrowej. Pracę została podzielono na cztery rozdziały, które uszczegółowione są w podrozdziałach odpowiadających blokom problemowym i tematycznym, przy uwzględnieniu porządku chronologicznego omawianego tematu. Rozdział pierwszy poświęcono omówieniu relacji polsko-niemieckich w latach 1918-1939. Rozdział drugi to przedstawienie charakterystyki czasopism katolickich w archidiecezji poznańskiej na tle prasy międzywojennej. Rozdział trzeci omawia sposób prezentowania stosunków polsko-niemieckich w prasie archidiecezjalnej w trzech okresach historycznych - od zakończenia I wojny, światowej, poprzez okres normalizacji stosunków z III Rzeszą, aż do realnego zagrożenia ze strony hitlerowskich Niemiec - ujętych w osobnych podrozdziałach. W ostatnim, czwartym rozdziale poddano analizie sposób podejmowania problematyki niemieckiej przez prasę katolicką, wydawaną w archidiecezji.This dissertation discusses the problem of Polish-German relations between the two World Wars as covered by the Catholic press in the oldest Polish ecclesial province which is the Archdiocese of Poznań. The study is based on an analysis of materials published by the Archdiocesan press. It should be emphasized that the Archdiocesan press before 1939 was one of the most dynamically expanding publishing entities with the fastest growing readership in independent Poland. The materials studied by the dissertation included not only printed works intended for the general public, but also organizational periodicals, bulletins and parish newsletters, published in the Archdiocese of Poznań. With the one hundred and fifty mentioned publications – referenced by the Bibliography of Catholic Religious Periodicals in Poland – it must be noted that not all of them could be located in spite of intensive searches in archival collections and libraries. Some of the library resources have been destroyed over the years or significantly dilapidated. As a result, there are certain missing periodicals, incomplete annals or individual issues which, although accessible, have become so damaged that they are illegible. The resources made available by the Digital Library of Wielkopolska turned out to be most helpful. This study has been divided into four chapters which include sub-chapters referring to pertinent problems and themes in keeping with the chronological order of the subjects under consideration. The first chapter concerns Polish-German relations from 1918 until 1939. The second chapter presents the characteristics of Catholic periodicals in the Archdiocese of Poznań in light of the published press between the two World Wars. The third chapter discusses the manner in which Polish-German relations were covered by the Archdiocesan press during three historic periods: from the end of World War I; during the time of normalized relations with the Third Reich; and during the time of threat posed by Nazi Germany. All these periods are elaborated on in separate sub-chapters.
