Pisarstwo Kofty nie doczekało się dotąd pełnej analizy w postaci monografii naukowej. Autorka w swojej twórczości łączy perspektywę historyczną z przeglądem współczesnych problemów życia społecznego (w szczególności kwestii praw kobiet). Jej działalność artystyczną można zatem traktować jako opis przemian zachodzących zarówno w obrębie obserwowanej przez nią przestrzeni społecznej, jak i w odniesieniu do gatunku powieści i pisarstwa kobiet. Rozdział pierwszy (Heroina) sytuuje twórczość Kofty na tle pisarstwa kobiet i ruchu feministycznego, drugi (Autobiografistka) ukazuje typową dla jej pisarstwa autokreację, kolejne rozdziały – trzeci (Matka) i czwarty (Artystka) – przedstawiają zmagania Kofty z poszukiwaniem odpowiedniej formy ekspresji literackiej, odczuwaniem obcości własnych dzieł. Ostatni z wymienionych problemów został omówiony w najobszerniejszym rozdziale Obca, stanowiącym zwieńczenie pracy doktorskiej. Ukazuje on najważniejsze wymiary obcości w pisarstwie Kofty: społeczne, jednostkowe i intymne-cielesne (choroba nowotworowa).The aim of the PhD thesis is to present the metamorphosis in the realm of women’s writing on the basis of Krystyna Kofta’s works with respect to the notion of strangeness. So far, no in-depth research of Kofta’s writing has been conducted in the form of a scientific monograph. In her works, the author combines a historical perspective with an overview of contemporary problems linked to social life (the issue of women’s rights in particular). Therefore, her literary output can be treated as a description of changes occurring both in the social space the author observes and of a metamorphosis of the genre of women’s fiction (as seen from the gender studies perspective). The first chapter (‘The Heroine’) considers Kofta’s literary output with respect to women’s writing and the feminist movement. The second chapter (‘The Autobiographer’) elaborates on the notion of self-creation, typical of her writing. The third chapter (‘The Mother’) and the fourth chapter (‘The Artist’) present Kofta’s struggle to find a proper form of literary expression and to deal with the feeling the strangeness of her own works. The last of the mentioned issues has been discussed in the longest chapter titled ‘The Stranger’ which constitutes the last chapter of the PhD thesis.
