Historia i współczesność pojęcia jest sproblematyzowanie kategorii nowości jako pojęcia teoretycznoliterackiego, a następnie sprawdzenie użyteczności tej kategorii dla scharakteryzowania zjawisk w obrębie współczesnej literatury polskiej. Rozprawa składa się z dwóch części, podzielonych kolejno na trzy i cztery rozdziały, oraz wstępu i zakończenia. Część pierwsza, zatytułowana „Kultura po przypadłości. Rozeznania w świecie bez humanizmu” poświęcona jest filozoficznej i kulturoznawczej refleksji nad samym pojęciem nowości. Część druga rozprawy – „Czas Pana Spocka. Epoka nowości” – prezentuje model myślenia o kulturze współczesnej jako formacji zupełnie nowej, dopiero powstającej na szczątkach nowoczesnej – dotkniętej przypadłością – kultury okcydentalnej, a nie – jak zwykło się przyjmować w ramach linearnych koncepcji historycznokulturowych – będącej jej naturalnym przedłużeniem. Jest to przede wszystkim kultura świadoma zbrodni dokonanych pod auspicjami rozumu instrumentalnego i niebezpieczeństw związanych z tendencją do kształtowania rzeczywistości wedle przyjętych uprzednio, normatywnych założeń. Ostatnie rozdziały poświęcone są uwarunkowaniom specyficznym dla polskiej sytuacji społeczno kulturowej.The purpose of the dissertation The Category of the New in the Context of the Polish Contemporary Literature. The History and Contemporality of the Term is to problematize the category of the new as a theoretical literary concept, and then to check usefulness of this category for the characterization of the phenomena within contemporary Polish literature. The dissertation consists of the introduction, two parts, divided respectively into three and four chapters, and the ending. The first part, entitled "Culture after an accident. Discernment in the world without humanism" is devoted to the philosophical and cultural studies reflection on the very concept of the new. The second part of the dissertation – "The Time of Mr. Spock. The Age of the New" – presents a model of thinking about contemporary culture as a completely new formation which is just emerging on the remains of a modern occidental culture impacted by the accident, and not – as it was used to be thought in linear concepts of the history of culture – being its natural extension. It is primarily a culture aware of the crimes committed under the auspices of the instrumental reason and of the dangers associated with the tendency to shape reality according to previously adopted normative assumptions.
