Rewitalizacja analizowana jest tutaj nie tylko jako administracyjno-ekspercki dyskurs zorganizowany wokół idei poprawy stanu materialnej tkanki postindustrialnych miast, ale także jako wyrastająca z doświadczenia miejskiej codzienności praktyka interpretacyjna – angażująca zarówno instytucje, jak i mieszkańców miasta. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwszy z nich podejmuje problem ideologizowania dyskursu rewitalizacji przez różne wspólnoty interpretacyjne, w tym także przez społeczność badaczy. Drugi rozdział tropi ślady pojęcia rewitalizacji w trzech dwudziestowiecznych koncepcjach przestrzeni miejskiej, sformułowanych przez R.E.Parka, F.Znanieckiego i A.Wallisa. Trzeci rozdział przedstawia rewitalizację jako warstwowy projekt kulturowy realizowany na poziomie praktyk takich jak: tworzenie ładu, reinterpretacja więzi społecznej, i konstruowanie miejsc. Praca sytuuje się w obszarze kulturalistycznych ujęć przestrzeni miejskiej. Przyjęto w niej interdyscyplinarne podejście badawcze analizy kulturowej.The purpose of the dissertation is to extend a semantic field of the concept of revitalization. Revitalization is thus analyzed not only as a technocratic discourse focused on the improvement of the material layer of postindustrial urban spaces but also as interpretive practice based on everyday experience of the city – performed both by institutions and by urban dwellers. The dissertation consists of three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the discourse of revitalization as a subject of ideologization performed by various interpretive communities – including the community of scholars. The second chapter searches for traces of the revitalization concept in three twentieth-century theories regarding urban space introduced by R.E.Park, F.Znaniecki and A.Wallis. The third chapter presents revitalization as multi-layer cultural project based on several practices such as the creation of spatial order, the reinterpretation of social bonds, and placemaking. The dissertation is rooted in the field of culturalist theories of urban space.
