Składa się ona z trzech rozdziałów (1. Komandor – Pochodzenie, Definicja, Konteksty; 2. Komandor w operze. Konteksty; 3. Komandor w poezji polskiej), wstępu i zakończenia. W swoich badaniach zastanawiam się m.in. nad korzeniami mitu, relacją zachodzącą między Komandorem a innymi ożywionymi posągami opisywanymi na przestrzeni lat, tematem zemsty i kary dokonywanej przez wykazujące aktywność posągi, związkami zachodzącymi między mitem Kamiennego Gościa i Don Juana a mitem Fausta, motywem ingerencji sił nadprzyrodzonych, kluczowym momentem zaproszenia statuy na ucztę oraz „kamienną” estetyką Młodej Polski. Próbuję także określić status ontyczny Kamiennego Gościa, aby ostatecznie poddać refleksji polskie utwory poetyckie i utwory dramatyczne. Staram się udowodnić, że Komandor – bez którego mit Don Juana nie może osiągnąć swej pełni, powinien wreszcie wyjść z jego cienia.Despite abundant research concerning the myth of Don Juan, the meaningful figure of Commander still seems to be neglected. However, the wealth of literary and socio-cultural references indeed proves that the animate tombstone statue plays a role that is by no means lesser than the one of the Trickster and that is why I have decided to devote this dissertation to Commander. It consists of three chapters (1. Commander – Origin, Definition, Contexts; 2. Commander in opera; 3. Commander in Polish poetry), as well as the introduction and conclusion. In my analysis, I take into consideration the following themes: the roots of the myth, the relations between Commander and other animate statues depicted throughout the years, the idea of vengeance and crime committed by these active statues, the linkage between the myth of the Stone Guest and the myth of Faust, the motif of interference of the supernatural, the key moment of the statue’s being invited to the feast, and the “stone” aesthetics of the Young Poland movement. Moreover, I seek to establish the ontic status of the Stone Guest, to eventually reflect upon Polish poetry and drama works.
