Istotnymi pojęciami, które wyznaczają problematykę pracy prócz współpracy transgranicznej są: region, polityka regionalna, polityka strukturalna. Praca koncentruje się przede wszystkim na analizie wkładu jaki fundusze europejskie wniosły w rozwój pogranicza polsko-niemieckiego. Dodatkowo rozprawa wskazuje jaką rolę pogranicze polsko-niemieckie ma w realizacji założeń polskiej polityki regionalnej i jakie jest jego znaczenie w realizacji Strategii Rozwoju Kraju. W pracy przedstawione są kolejne unijne okresy wsparcia oraz towarzyszące im cele oraz obszary. Poruszone zostały kwestie realizacji zapisów kolejnych dokumentów programowych oraz programów operacyjnych. Wskazano także na zagadnienia dotyczące polskiej polityki regionalnej oraz towarzyszących jej dokumentów strategicznych. Istotne znaczenie w ujęciu rzeczowym pracy mają także wskazane uwarunkowania rozwoju regionalnego dla pogranicza polsko-niemieckiego. Rozprawa prezentuje koncepcje integracji Europy, genezę współpracy regionalnej w Europie oraz kształtowanie współpracy na pograniczu polsko-niemieckim. Zasadnicza jej część dotyczy czasów najnowszych z uwzględnieniem przemian społeczno-politycznych w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej, polskiego stowarzyszenia i akcesji. Kluczowe znaczenie dla realizacji celów pracy miała ostatnia dekada XX wieku oraz początek XXI stulecia, wyznaczany przez kolejne okresy programowania UE.The dissertation focuses on the analysis of the role of cross-border cooperation in the Polish-German cross-border region and on the impact of European Funds on this cooperation. Essential terms, besides cross-border cooperation, which determine the dissertation are: region, regional policy and structural policy. The dissertation main purpose is to analyse the contribution of European Funds to the development of Polish-German cross-border region. Additionally, the dissertation shows the role of Polish-German cross-border region in the execution of polish regional policy and its importance in the execution of Country Development Strategy. Further European Support Programmes, their objectives and support areas have been shown in the dissertation. Issues regarding the execution of further programme documents and operational programmes have been raised. Issues concerning polish regional policy and its accompanying strategic documents haven been shown as well. Vital importance in material terms of the dissertation has also the shown background of regional development of the Polish-German cross-border region. The dissertation shows the concepts of european integration, the origins of regional cooperation in Europe and cooperation formation in the Polish-German cross-border region. The main part of the dissertation concerns contemporary history taking into account social and political changes in Central and Eastern Europe and Poland's accession to the European Union.
