Legenda Krystiana znana także pod łacińską nazwą Vita et passio sancti Wenceslai et sancte Ludmile ave eius to bardzo nietypowy utwór, który traktuje o świętych Ludmile i Wacławie, zawiera opis początków państwa czeskiego, działalności misyjnej świętych Cyryla i Metodego oraz opis chrystianizacji Czechów. Autor Legendy jest tradycyjnie określany jako Krystian, który w prologu swoją pracę dedykował świętemu Wojciechowi, kiedy ten był biskupem praskim. Próby identyfikacji autora Legendy na przestrzeni dziejów były przeróżne i to niezależnie do tego, czy uważano ten utwór za prawdziwie napisany pod koniec X w., czy też za później powstałe fałszerstwo.My doctoral thesis: “The Legend of Kristian – truth or mystification? The life and martyrdom of St. Wenceclaus and St. Ludmila in the light of historical and philological analysis” examines the historiographical and philological aspect of an exceptional Latin source describing the beginnings of the Czech state, the fate of its Church as well as the chronicle of events of the first generations of the Premyslid Dynasty. Kristian’s Legend, also known under the Latin name Vita et passio sancti Wenceslai et sancte Ludmile ave eius, is an exceptional literary work; recounting the story of the saints Ludmila and Wenceslaus, presenting the missionary activity of St Cyril and Methodius as well as the Christianisation of the Czech nation. The author of the Legend, traditionally referred to as Kristian, addresses St Adalbert, the bishop of Prague at the time, in the prologue of his work.
