The article contains consideration on social and political situation existing in
time of workers' protest in Poznań in June 1956 and on contemporary and later scientific
and political interpretations of these events. The author is interested in internal
and international conditions of social tensions in Poland. It is his view that the
elements of crisis lay not only in the assumed model of laying down the foundations
of the new political system but also in the errors of politicians who in due
time were not able to bring themselves to necessary reformatory actions.
