Works of totally different kinds of literaturę may be found united in a compilation sharing literary fame though not materiał comprehension. A case in point is the compilation of Snorra Edda and the Grammatical Treatises in the Codex Wormianus. This article sketches the history of understanding and misunderstanding the duality of the pooled texts.Item „Nachts denkt man anders als am Tage“ – Laxness’ Alþýðubókin(Adam Mickiewicz University Press, 2000) Groenke, UlrichA turn of ideas in the history of Laxness’ literary production is marked by the compilation of the author’s early journalistic opuscula in “a book of brilliant burlesque and satirical essays, Alpydubokin” (Stefan Einarsson: A History o f Icelandic Literature, 1957, 317-318), written in California from 1927 to 1929, published in Iceland (1929). The importance of the book and of the author’s commentary in the foreword to the second edition of 1945 are uncontested and frequently talked over in the Laxness literature, yet the book is badly known outside Icelandic speaking circles, because there are no translations at hand. This paper tries to give an impression o f the various articles and essays by brief annotations and representative translations of spots and highlights.
