Item Dental discriminant sexing of human cremated remains(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1986) Kaczmarek, Maria; Piontek, Janusz; Malinowski, AndrzejBadając ludzkie szczątki kostne antropolog staje często przed problemem określenia płci nieznanego osobnika. Enamel hypoplasia in 68 individuals from a medieval cemetery of Slaboszewo (North-Western Poland) was analysed. Individual ages at defect development were assessed. Sex differences as well as mean age at death of individuals affected and unaffected were calculated. Possible causal factors have been discussed.Item O przedmiocie antropologii ekologicznej. Szkic problematyki(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1987) Piontek, JanuszThe main thesis of the article says that definite types of biological structures correspond to definite sociocultural systems. Ecological anthropology investigates the essential relations of these factors.Item The crania from modern cemeteries in Jaksice (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province, Poland) and craniometric relationships among medieval and modern Central European populations(2006) Piontek, Janusz; Iwanek, Beata; Czapla, ZbigniewThe paper presents the anthropometric characteristics of the crania from church cemeteries in Jaksice (Kujawy, Poland). The archaeological excavations in Jaksice were carried out in 1968 and 1969. The crania found were dated to the 15th and 17th centuries. For each cranium 10 anthropometric measurements were taken according to R. Martin’s (1928) technique. Their sex and age were estimated according to the methods recommended by European anthropologists. Data on craniological traits for 21 populations from Poland were collected from literature. Using principal components analysis differentiation of the Late Middle Ages and modern populations from Poland was analysed. The analysis was performed also with the use of the biological distance and the cluster analysis methods. High degree of resemblance of the studied crania to the crania of Central Poland (Kujawy, Wielkopolska) populations was revealed.Item Zróżnicowanie struktur wymieralności populacji z mezolitu, neolitu i wczesnych okresów epoki brązu z terenu Europy Środkowej i Ukrainy: Próba nowego podejścia metodycznego(Polskie Towarzystwo Antropologiczne, 1996) Piontek, Janusz; Wiercińska, Alina; Wierciński, AndrzejDIFFERENTIATION OF THE MORTALITY STRUCTURE'IN MESOLITHIC, NEOLITHIC AND EARLY BRONZE AGE POPULATIONS FROM CENTRAL EUROPE AND UKRAINE: A NEW METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH. The analysis of the mortality structure was based on the following premises: (1) the mortality structure may be derived from frequency distribution of the categories of the age at death and, (2) the mortality structure may be considered as a complex relational system which ought to be investigated on bothj the elementary and synthetic levels. In the first case, particular trait is analysed in view of the mean age at death. In second case, there are analysed the linear combinations of elementary traits (here, by use of the principal components method).
