The cultural interpretation of philosophy of morality of David Hume
Abstract
Prezentowana rozprawa doktorska jest próbą nowatorskiej, kulturowej interpretacji filozofii moralności Davida Hume’a. Interpretacja ta dystansuje się od psychologistycznych i naturalistycznych odczytań tego szkockiego filozofa. Kulturowej interpretacji dokonano poprzez odwołanie się do tzw. nauk o duchu (niem. Geisteswissenschaften), wyodrębnionych przez Wilhelma Diltheya, który wprowadził nowe pojęcie „rozumienia”, oraz przywołanie krytyki psychologizmu dokonanej przez Edmunda Husserla. Pozwoliło to na wprowadzenie rozróżnienia między procesem konstytucji moralności – traktowanej jako dziedziny kultury według społeczno-regulacyjnej koncepcji kultury Jerzego Kmity – a procesem partycypacji w kulturze. Prezentowana praca badawcza ukazuje kulturowe rozumienie pojęć z zakresu moralności, na przykład sympatii (oddźwięku uczuciowego), poczucia ludzkości, sprawiedliwości, natury ludzkiej. Wskazuje tym samym ich źródło sięgające starożytnej filozofii oraz powiązania z rozważaniami pochodzącymi z nauk o kulturze.
The main purpose of this dissertation is to attempt to present novel, cultural, interpretation of philosophy of morality of David Hume. The author of this interpretation attempts to distances herself from the psychological and naturalistic reading of ideas of the Scottish philosopher. The cultural interpretation was made by reference to Geisteswissenschaften (sciences of spirit), a science created by Wilhelm Dilthey, who introduced the new notion of "understanding", and criticism of psychologism made by Edmund Husserl. This allowed for the author to introduce distinction between the process of constitution of morality – treated as a field of culture in accordance with socio-regulatory theory of culture of Jerzy Kmita - and the process of participation in culture. The research work has shown a cultural understanding of the concepts of morality, which dates back to ancient philosophy, for example: sympathy, humanity, justice, human nature and considerations from the sciences of culture.
