Abstract: Augustine, an excellent rhetor, in some of his texts used his skills not only to convince the reader, but to open him or her to the state of contemplation, of seeing God. This use of language to directly influence the reader’s consciousness is showed in the analysis of the passage from the De Trinitate VIII.1.2.
