The aim of this paper is to emphasise the fact that quotations from Ovid’s Ars amatoria or Remedia amoris are often used in seventeenth-century emblem books to confirm moral truths. Quotations from Ovid’s works play an important role in Jacob Cats’ Silenus Alcibiadis. A detailed analysis will cover emblematic subscriptiones that include quotations from or clear references to Ovid’s works as an important construction element of the composition of an emblem. It turns out that words of the Roman poet taken from works with a parody note are used in this emblem book with clearly didactic and moralizing aim.pl_PL
