Heroic folk tale In Romanian folk literature. An analysis of motifs.
Abstract
Rozprawa poświęcona jest fenomenowi bajki bohaterskiej, zjawiska powszechnie obecnego w rumuńskiej literaturze ludowej. Pierwszy rozdział rozprawy omawia zagadnienia literatury ludowej oraz jej wzajemnych relacji z literaturą pisaną, jest również poświęcony miejscu baśni w ramach literatury ludowej. Rozdział drugi ma na celu umieszczenie analizowanych przez nas zbiorów baśni rumuńskich w szerszym kontekście europejskim, wskazanie na jej miejsce wśród europejskich tradycji baśniowych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tradycji baśniowych świata romańskiego i wschodnioeuropejskiego. Praca skupia się przede wszystkim na świecie bajki magicznej, dlatego też rozdział trzeci wyznacza granice między pojęciami bajki magicznej i baśni, analizuje również relacje wzajemne mitu, bajki magicznej oraz pieśni epickiej. Rozdział czwarty omawia bajkę bohaterską jako odmianę bajki magicznej, natomiast piąty stanowi jednocześnie przegląd najważniejszych dziewiętnastowiecznych kolekcji rumuńskich bajek ludowych oraz zarys historii badań nad bajką ludową w Rumunii. Rozdział szósty stanowi pogłębioną analizę najistotniejszych - naszym zdaniem - motywów rumuńskiej bajki bohaterskiej: cudownych narodzin bohatera, jego walki o przywrócenie kosmicznego porządku, zakłóconego poprzez kradzież Słońca i Księżyca przez demony, oraz motywu pobratymstwa bohaterów rumuńskich bajek, tzw. braterstwa krzyża (frăţie de cruce), będąc jednocześnie zarysem universum rumuńskiej baśni i jego związków ze światem ludowych wierzeń.
The aim of the present thesis is to focus on the phenomenon of the heroic folk tale, which is very popular in the Romanian folk literature. The paper is structured in six distinguished chapters. The first chapter concerns general problems of the oral folk literature and its relation to written literature. It also analyzes the place of the folktale in the folk literature. The second chapter contains a comparative study of Romanian folktales in the European context, with a special attention given to Romance and Eastern European folktales. As the dissertation refers to the tales of magic, the third chapter concerns the definitions of two Polish terms: bajka magiczna (tale of magic, wonder tale) and baśń (which makes reference to both Aarne Thompson’s Ordinary folk tale and (literary) fairy tale). It refers also to the mutual relations between myth, tale of magic and heroic epic. The heroic folktale as a type of tale of magic is the subject of the following chapter, the fourth one. In the fifth chapter, I present the most important collections of Romanian folktales from the nineteenth century, which constitute the main material of my analysis, and an overview of folktale research in Romania.The last chapter represents an analysis of the main motifs of Romanian heroic folktales: the supernatural birth of the hero, his struggle to recover the Cosmic order, disturbed by the demons who steal the Sun and The Moon from the sky, and the motif of brotherhood of heroes, known as brotherhood of the cross (frăţie de curce). In this chapter I present also an overview of the Universe of Romanian tale of magic and its relations to Romanian folk beliefs.
