Item Edukacje duchowe. Perspektywa religioznawcza(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2014) Iwanicki, JuliuszThe article considers the different types of spiritual education. Three types are identified: classical education, Christian and alternative education. Classical education is linked to the tradition of Paideia, and the teachings of Plato. The Christian Education is associated primarily with the teachings of Augustine, but also the Polish philosopher Hessen. Alternative education is characterized by its multiplicity and represented by Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual system and the Polish school of holistic education. On the basis of comparative religion, we can divide education into denominational education and non-denominational education. The purpose of spiritual education would be finding some salvation in God, while the other forms – provide the unity of nature and freedom of the human spirit.Item Erozja tajemnicy. Przemiany religijności w późnych wiekach średnich na przykładzie filozofii Williama Ockhama(2013) Iwanicki, JuliuszResearchers have pointed to various origins of the historical processes of secularisation. Within this article, I assume that the nominalist philosophical-religious thought of William Ockham constituted such a possible origin. This thinker developed a social philosophy critical of the excessive political power of the papacy in the final centuries of the Middle Ages. In this way, Ockham pushed forward the philosophical and political thought of his time. According to the earlier medieval thought, it was the ecclesiastic power that would determine who should rule in a given society. Ockham did significantly reduce the intellectual prerogatives of the ecclesiastic power to control the emerging secular society based on monarchic-national principles. This did not mean that Ockham was personally a non-believer; in fact, on the basis of his metaphysics, he considered God to be an omnipotent being capable of bending at will the laws underlying reality. This, however, led him to the conclusion that God is essentially unknowable, which, in turn, pushed Ockham to some form of intellectual scepticism and a pronounced limitation of the capacities of theology in juxtaposition to the secularizing philosophy. Ockham did thus inspire the processes of secularisation on multiple planes: cultural as well as institutional, and this is what supports the main thesis of this paper. W końcowej części zawarto przemyślenia na temat etyki kapitalizmu Petera Bergera – kontynuatora dorobku Maxa WeberaItem Koncepcja sekularyzacji życia społecznego Jeana Antoine Condorceta(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2012) Iwanicki, JuliuszJuliusz Iwanicki – THE CONCEPT OF SECULARIZATION OF SOCIAL LIFE BY JEAN ANTOINE CONDORCET This article presents the social thought and philosophy of education of Jean Antoine Condorcet, a c-creator of the French Revolution. This philosopher is a forerunner of a certain vision of seculari-zation in its French shape characterized by a complete liquidation of the existence of religion in its public dimension. The article presents also his detailed propositions in this matter. The author at-tempts as well to answer the question how solid was the ideological legacy of Condorcet and what was the one sided view of his projects.Item Koncepcja „wojny kultur” w twórczości Oriany Fallaci i Agnieszki Kołakowskiej(Mage.pl, 2014) Iwanicki, JuliuszArtykuł jest próbą porównawczej i interdyscyplinarnej analizy (z perspektywy filozofii, kulturoznawstwa i nauk społecznych) twórczości dwóch pisarek – Oriany Fallaci i Agnieszki Kołakowskiej. Item Od religijności ewangelicznej do religijności obywatelskiej. Antynomie koncepcji religijności w filozofii Jean-Jacques’a Rousseau(Wydawnictwo Fundacji Humaniora, 2013) Iwanicki, JuliuszThis article analyzes the philosophy of religion and the social philosophy of the French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The proposed thesis is that Rousseau has created two different secular concepts of religion. These are evangelical religion and religiosity Citizens. The first type is subjective and individual religiosity, with a tendency toward being emotional and non-dogmatic. The second type of religiosity is associated with the construction of a new society based on the general will. While the first type of religiosity is a relatively tolerant kind of religiosity, the second type is more authoritarian and is associated primarily with a proper relationship with the state. Rousseau’s philosophy is therefore thought to contain deep paradoxes, as it is difficult to reconcile these two types of religion.Item Paradygmat Weberowski w myśli religioznawczej Petera Bergera(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2011) Iwanicki, JuliuszJuliusz Iwanicki – WEBER’S PARADIGM IN PETER BERGER’S STUDY OF RELIGION In the article I analyze the paradigm of Max Weber in study of religions. This paradigm consists of such ideas as: historicism, comparative study, relation of religion and society, or anal-ysis of rationalization processes in Western culture. One of the main followers of Max Weber’s thought was Peter Berger. This American scholar initially was a supporter of the classical theory of secularization. He understood the theory of secularization as a continuation of rationalization processes. In his later works, however, he modified his theory. He concluded that the seculariza-tion theory is correct only for selected areas. The effect of Max Weber’s thought is also visible in this phase of Berger’s work.Item Procesy sekularyzacyjne a filozofia sekularna i postsekularna. Item Procesy sekularyzacyjne a filozofia sekularna i postsekularna. Tradycje i współczesność(2013-06-17) Iwanicki, Juliusz; Drozdowicz, Zbigniew. Adama Mickiewicza, 2012) Iwanicki, JuliuszThis article presents the relationship between religion and secularism in Machiavelli’s social philosophy. Machiavelli used the same method to study both state and religion. For him, in fact, there is no difference between the world of state and the world of religion. Machiavelli’s works mainly include tips on how a ruler should rule a country. According to the metaphor he used, a prince must be a lion and a fox at the same time. A ruler should also be able to use religion as an instrument of state policy. Religion teaches us that moral goodness is an element of people’s moral life. Machiavelli, however, felt that the old pagan religions, especially the Roman religion, were better than the Christian religion. In his opinion ancient religions cultivated the virtue of courage. A lord and prince, however, should be above moral standards that are drawn from religion. These and other Machiavelli’s arguments make his thought very secular.Item Sesja o narratywizmie(2013) Brzechczyn, Krzysztof; Lorenz, Chris; Iwanicki, Juliusz; Domańska, Ewa; Bobako, Monika; Tucker, Aviezer; White, Hayden; Brzechczyn, Krzysztof; Karczyńska, Eliza; Gutkiewicz, WojciechKrzysztof Brzechczyn, Polish reception of the discussion. Between positivism and narrativism in the methodology of history. Introduction Proposed by Hempel, the deductive-nomological model of explanation initiated a lively discussion about the status and peculiarities of explanation in history, lasting more than half a century in the Western philosophy of history. An appearance of narrativism was interpreted as an alternative to hitherto dominant positivist philosophy of history. A peculiarity of the development of the methodology of humanities in Poland at the end of 1960s was the appearance of the Poznań School of Methodology which proposed a naturalistic but anti-positivist scientific program. Dominant position of this school caused delayed reception of narrativism in philosophy of the humanities in Poland. It is claimed that there were methodological, and ideological reasons as well as differences in the style of doing science which hindered spread of this approach. Therefore, the full popularization of narrativism was possible in Poland after 1989.Item Transformacja procesu sekularyzacji. Próba kategoryzacji(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2012) Iwanicki, JuliuszJuliusz Iwanicki – TRANSFORMING THE PROCESS OF SECULARIZATION. TRYING CATEGORIZATION The article tries to sort out the theoretical terminology around the category of "secularism". Reference is made here to the four types of secularization: the material, institutional, individual and cultural. The first type of secularism is associated with the loss of wealth in the history of religion by the churches. The second type of secularism is associated with atrophy of the presence of religion in the public space. A third type of secularism - the religious changes within individual units. The fourth and final type of secularization concerns in a cultural secularization. These four types of secularization make possible a comprehensive description of the dynamics of the transformation process of secu-larization. An important argument in the article because it is the claim that secularism is now the transformation of religion rather than its disappearance.Item Wybrane innowacje kulturowe we współczesnej polskiej myśli religijnej(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2016) Iwanicki, JuliuszThe article analyses the concept of cultural innovation. Some elements of this process are distinguished: (1) the development of the idea in the mind of the creator; (2) transfer of the idea materialized in the form of the work; (3) obtaining recognition from customers; (4) imitation of the works from the epigones. An example of such an innovation is the blog Cleopas published in the Polish network. The specificity of this Website makes that it promotes various innovative attempts of cultural works. The main developer of this portal, Robert Rynkowski, promotes various innovations within theology and seeks to critically approach many phenomena in Polish religious thought promoting cultural stagnation. He also has published a book, which makes an attempt to deepen inclusive religiosity, inter alia, by the idea that everyone is a theologian, or that there are different types of religious thought (academic, secular, artistic, etc.). The second innovative religious thinker presented in this article is Waclaw Hryniewicz. He also participates in discussions on the aforementioned online blog. In addition, it promotes the so-called theological hypothesis about the hope of universal salvation. The above-mentioned examples of cultural innovation in the Polish religion are not the dominant voice of Polish Catholicism. The Polish Catholic Church also promotes more exclusive stance, which attaches greater significance to the defence of religious tradition.
