Item Boundaries from borders: Cross-border relationships in the context of the mental perception of a borderline – experiences from Spanish-French and Polish-German border twin towns(Wydział Nauk Geograficznych i Geologicznych Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza, 2016) Markuszewska, Iwona; Tanskanen, MInna; SubIrós, Josep VIlaIn this paper, the borderlands, in the context of the psychological perception of frontiers, were presented. The common relationships between different nationalities living in border twin towns was a principal point of analysis. During the investigation two main research questions were asked: Is a frontier a barrier or a bridge in the common relationships between nationalities living on both sides of the borderline? and Does the trans-border casual social in- tegration stimulate openness to neighbours? The study was conducted in two double towns: La Jonquera (Els Límits) – Le Perthus at the Spanish-French border and Słubice – Frankfurt-am-Oder at the Polish-German border. The data were gathered from surveys by questioning locals and visitors during street polling. The design of the questionnaire included three main groups of questions relating to: 1) the perception of the borderline and the role of the border twin towns, 2) the attitude towards neighbours and identifcation with the borderlands, and 3) the future of the borderline in the context of the twin towns existence and cross-border linkages. The results showed that the historical circumstances and cultural background play a crucial role in the current bilateral interrelations between nations sharing the common space of the twin towns. These two aspects of the borderland have an infuence on the psychological perception of the border that creates mental boundaries in local societies. However, as the results proved, the necessity of living together pushed locals to be more open-minded, which as a consequence supported the establishment of social bonds.Item Changes of agricultural landscape pattern – non-natural driving forces analyzing based on the North-Western Region of Poland(Wydział Nauk Geograficznych i Geologicznych Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza, 2013) Markuszewska, IwonaIn this paper, preceding changes and current situation in agricultural landscape pattern were elaborated as well as future transition was discussed. The North-Western Region of Poland was chosen as a study area, however, the research was conducted at the regional level, in provinces of this region including: Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie and Zachodniomomorskie. For analysis statistical data from Common Agricultural Census, containing the last two decades, between 1990–2010, were extracted. Based on established knowledge and proposed approach driving forces of landscape changes were identified. The research deals with the following aspects: 1) identification of underlying trends of landscape changes that took place over the study period, 2) finding driving forces responsible for cause-effect relationships in landscape alteration, 3) recognition of farmers’ reasons for what they took actions leading to landscape changes, and 4) identification of major current and foreseeable future tendencies of modification of landscape pattern. Political, economic and social driving forces, as the most affecting, were recognized and their influence on agricultural landscape structure was analyzed.Item Land consolidation as an instrument of shaping the agrarian structure in Poland: a case study of the Wielkopolskie and Dolnośląskie voivodeships(Wydział Nauk Geograficznych i Geologicznych Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza, 2013) Markuszewska, IwonaFragmentation of agricultural landscape is a specific feature of agrarian structure in Poland. Despite the fact that consolidation work has been carried out for years, the positive effects are still negligible. This is because land consolidation in Poland is encountering with a number of obstacles, which on the one hand, is cumbersome formal and legal policy, and on the other hand, disapproval of officials and farmers as well. These barriers unnecessarily prolong the proceeding, which is inherently long-term, sometimes takes years and not always is successfully completed. For this reason an effort was made to answer the question: how improving in land consolidation policy may look up the efficiency of land merging work in Poland? Two formal procedures were presented, on the basis of which land consolidation is carried out in two voivodeships: Wielkopolskie and Dolnośląskie. The study revealed the main obstacles and weaknesses in legal regulation. Additionally, open-interviews among farmers as well as local and regional land consolidation authorities, were undertaken. On the basis of the acquired data, a number of new suggestions to more successful land consolidation policy, were put forward. Finally, possible solutions to perk up the land unification work were established.Item Natural conditions as a premise for the development of the Poznań urbanised area(2010) Mizgajski, Andrzej; Bródka, Sylwia; Fagiewicz, Katarzyna; Kijowska, Jolanta; Łowicki, Damian; Markuszewska, Iwona; Poniży, LidiaThis paper presents the natural conditions in the Poznań urbanised area with a focus on lasting preservation of the resources both in respect of quantity and quality. The problem related sections concern the land surface, mineral resources, soil, water and assets of natural systems. The content shows elements of a nature potential diagnosis considering the forms of human pressure and condition of the environment’s components. Based on the above conclusions were drawn regarding the actions necessary to preserve or improve the nature-related aspects of the population’s quality of life. The purposefulness and scope of the current and planned co-operation between communes as regards environment management were assessed.Item New ways to learn geography – challenges of the 21st century(Wydział Nauk Geograficznych i Geologicznych Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza, 2018-03) Markuszewska, Iwona; Tanskanen, Minna; Subirós, Josep VilaThe aim of the article is to get a closer overview of the non-instructional methods of the teaching-learning process of geography. To achieve this goal, the results of the international project Borderland: Border Landscapes Across Europe (undertaken in 2012 and 2013, within the framework of LLP-Erasmus Programme) was presented. Special attention was paid on the innovative approach to learning methods, namely learning by doing (LBD) that was experienced in a multinational environment during the project’s implementation.Item Pomiędzy ekonomią a ochroną zasobów: gospodarowanie gruntami rolnymi na wybranych przykładach w gminie Zbąszyń (Wielkopolska)(Wydawnictwo Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk, 2016) Markuszewska, Iwona; Marchewka, PaulinaRural areas are more often exposed to changes as a result of the urbanisation of the countryside. As a consequence, changes in the agricultural land use are observed, which often lead to the loss of the soil’s resources. Reconciling the development of rural areas with the dynamics of the transformation of rural areas as a result of the suburbanisation process is s very difficult task to accomplish. This is why rational management of agrarian production space is important at local level. This paper presents the issue of the de-farming of agricultural land using the example of the Zbąszyń Commune in the Wielkopolska Region.Item The outlook of land consolidation in Poland: Stakeholders`dilemmas and policy weaknesses(Wydawnictwo Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk, 2016) Markuszewska, IwonaThis paper discusses the issue of farmland merging in Poland in the face of social unwillingness and a poor legal policy. The theoretical consideration was carried out on the basis of the scientific body of literature, supported by empirical examples of farmland consolidation. The intention of the work is to present a comprehensive overview of land consolidation, where special attention was paid to the unsuccessful merging efforts. As a result of the investigation, attempts were made to answer the following question: Is land consolidation necessary to improve the condition of Polish farming?Item Urbanizacja terenów wiejskich w percepcji lokalnych mieszkańców na przykładzie Wolicy koło Kalisza(Wydawnictwo Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk, 2016) Markuszewska, Iwona; Delebis, AgnieszkaThe article concerns the process of the dynamic transformation of a rural area that came about as a result of suburbanisation. The transformation, concerning the last several years, was presented using the example of the village of Wolica, near Kalisz. The main data were obtained from a survey carried out among the local inhabitants. Additionally, the following information sources were used; cartographical maps and the planning and strategic documents of the commune of Godziesze Wielkie, being the territory on which Wolica is located. The results of the survey revealed that the suburbanisation of Wolica significantly changed the rural landscape. Although these changes are necessary, in response to the demands of local dwellers, they are not always beneficial for the maintenance of the landscape quality.Item Wpływ czynników pozaprzyrodniczych na zmiany struktury krajobrazu rolniczego Regionu Północno-Zachodniego w ostatnim dwudziestoleciu(Wydawnictwo Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk, 2012) Markuszewska, IwonaThis paper presents preliminary results of the study on agricultural landscape structure changes as a consequence of the influence of non-natural factors. The study region includes provinces of the North- -Western Region while the time span covers the years 1990–2010. Quantitative analysis of farmland use changes, which were based on Central Statistical Office data, were made. Moreover, selected indicators of agriculture characteristic as well as Driving Force – Pressure – State – Impact – Response approach were used. The study showed that due to increasing pressure of the intensive manner of arable land management, the durability and stability of landscape structure are under potential threat. This is because the economic benefits associated with increasing productivity are not always favourable from the point of view.Item Założenia pałacowo-parkowe okolic Krotoszyna i Koźmina Wielkopolskiego - analiza wybranych przykładów(Wydawnictwo Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk, 2008) Markuszewska, IwonaArtykuł dotyczy stanu zagospodarowania wybranych założeń pałacowo-parkowych okolic Krotoszyna oraz Koźmina Wlkp.
