Boccaccio’s book about famous women is a very peculiar one among his Latin works. He elaborated
themes borrowed from Greek and Roman mythology or history to elucidate moral and didactic
issues. This paper analyses the development of Boccaccio’s moral attitude, which is documented by
manuscripts representing different stages of Boccaccio’s work on the book.
