Szczygieł Zrób sobie raj. In his essays Szczygieł presents well known and the mostly negative images from new and more positive positions. Such a biased vision of the Czech raises the question of whether the picture is close to reality, and how much it is still a stereotype.Item Historia zapisana w nazwach ulic Brna – klasyfikacja semantyczna(Komisja Slawistyczna PAN, Oddział w Poznaniu, IFS UAM, Wydawnictwo PRO, 2013) Bura, Renata; Prędka, KarinaToponymy of a given city does not only create space but also reflects its character, the excellent example being the street nomenclature in Brno since the street nomenclature reflects the rich and complicated history of this city. The semantics of the street names of Brno echoes the reality. It shows the important role of the historic-urban as well as social-political factors in forming these names. In the later period, it also shows the administrative-urban factors. The semantic classification allowed us to confirm all of the listed types of names of the streets in the system of names in Brno and to distinguish the characteristics of those names that were only proper to this city. Moreover, one can see that a number of elements cross in this scheme and sometimes it is difficult to differentiate them in an unambiguous way.Item Czeskie dziewiętnasto- i dwudziestowieczne porównania z komponentem ZWIERZĘ(Komisja Slawistyczna PAN, Oddział w Poznaniu, IFS UAM, Wydawnictwo PRO, 2013) Balowska, GrażynaArticle is situated in a current of research on linguistic picture of the world. Subject of analysis are Czech’s nineteenth and twentieth century comparative structu- res motivated by a world of animals. Presentation of factors, which shape opposition human – animal in language and culture, is a starting point for considerations. In the further part, comparison was discussed as a phraseological unit of Czech language, as well as contribution of animals names in creating comparison, describing characteri- stics and human behaviors. Manner of evaluation in those structures was also descri- bed, in which animals names fundamentally serve for negative evaluation. On the example of chosen comparisons, with native and exotic animals names, similarities and differences were indicated in their functioning in nineteenth and twentieth centu- ry. Detailed analysis of comparisons with component svině served as an example of language-cultural differences, which was fullfiled in Czech language over the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
