Istota i istnienie w filozofii muzułmańskiej. Koncepcje Awicenny oraz Awerroesa i ich recepcja w myśli Tomasza z Akwinu

Abstract

Problem relacji między istotą a istnieniem nie był zagadnieniem, które należało do czołowych kwestii filozoficznych podejmowanych przez uczonych antycznych. Główną przyczyną takiego stanu rzeczy był sposób, w jaki Grecy postrzegali świat. Kosmos był dla nich czymś wiecznym, dlatego też nie pytali o jego istnienie. Interesowali się tylko dlaczego jest taki, jaki jest. Zainteresowanie problemem istnienia pojawiło się w momencie interakcji filozofii greckiej z kosmologią judeochrześcijańską. Ta, oparta na idei creatio ex nihilo podkreślała, że wszechświat jest czymś absolutnie niekoniecznym i że powstał przez stwórczy akt Boga. Pytanie o naturę relacji między istotą a istnieniem w sposób systematyczny jako pierwsi podjęli filozofowie muzułmańscy. Szczególnie ważną rolę odegrali tutaj Awicenna i Awerroes. Pierwszy z nich uchodzi za tego, który jako pierwszy w historii postawił tezę, że istota i istnienie różnią się realnie. Awerroes natomiast polemizował z tezą Awicenny, że istnienie jest tylko przypadłością istoty. Poglądy obu tych myślicieli znalazły swoją recepcję w systemie Tomasza z Akwinu i stanowiły ważny punkt w jego egzystencjalnym sposobie ujmowania bytu. Tomasz przejął od Awicenny przekonanie, że istota i istnienie różnią się od siebie realnie, natomiast bazując na krytyce, którą przedstawił Awerroes, przyjął, że istnienie nie jest przypadłością, ale aktem bytu.

The question of relation between an essence and an existence was not a main issue considered on the ground of ancient philosophy. The main reason of such a state, was a Greek’s way of comprehending of Universe. The Universe was eternal for them, and that is why they did not ask about its existence. The problem of existence starts to be part of philosophical investigation when interaction between philosophy and Judeo-Christian’s cosmology becomes to happen. The last one is based on the creatio ex nihilo conception in which the Universe is unnecessary and it is created by God. The question of nature of relation between an essence and an existence, in systematic way, was considered by Muslim philosophers by the first time. Especially Avicenna and Averroes were these thinkers who played main role in this subject. The first one of them was the one who, as the first man in history, said that the difference between an essence and an existence is real. While Averroes argued with Avicenna’s argument that existence is only a accident of essence. Conceptions of these thinkers influenced on Thomas’ Aquinas. What the Aquinas took from Avicenna’s thought was that difference between essence and existence is real, while based on Averroes’ critical arguments, Thomas concluded that existence is not an accident, but it is an act of being.
