Abstract
W pracy poddano analizie wyjątkowo bogaty w rozróżnienia końcówkowe fiński system przypadkowy. Autor podejmuje próbę holistycznego ujęcia problemu wyraźnie odżegnując się od podejść zatomizowanych, dominujących w dotychczasowej literaturze przedmiotu. Wobec powyższego narzuca się konieczność ustalenia, jakie zjawiska łączą się regularnie z przypadkiem fińskim jako takim, a jakie występują z nim jedynie w sposób idiosynkratyczny, warunkowany przez kontekst leksykalny. Zjawiska o charakterze regularnym, tj. gramatycznym, stanowią osnowę systemu przypadkowego i stanowią właściwy przedmiot zainteresowania tzw. gramatyk przypadka. Zadaniem gramatyki przypadka jest adekwatny opis relewantnych regularności morfologiczno-syntaktyczno-semantycznych. Autor wyróżnia 16 przypadków końcówkowych w języku fińskim. Opowiada się za kontrowersyjnym akuzatiwem oraz wprowadza przypadek nowy – absolutivus. Pozwala on uchwycić wiele, szczególnie niepodatnych na interpretację z tradycyjnego akuzatywnego punktu widzenia, składniowych i semantycznych właściwości języka fińskiego.
The present work comprises a study of the category of case in Finnish. It begins with an overview of the history of investigation, from antiquity up to modem times, shedding light on the general complexity of the category and successive attempts to develop systemic approaches to it. The book's main content consists of an analysis of the Finnish case system, with its 16 desinential cases classified into five subsystems on the ground of an explicitly formulated case theory. The detailed discussion concentrates on the solution of the most intricate problems of the syntax and semantics of Finnish cases, such as the characteristic merger of the category of subject and direct object (nominative, accusative and partitive) and the combinability of quantitative ineanings with other (especially aspectual and individuative) meanings. The analysis results in the assignment to each Finn ish case of a bundle of appropriate morphological, syntactic and semantic properties, relatively independent from the context, characteristic only of the given case, in such a way that it is systemically opposed to the other cases within the same case system.
