SOVEREIGN WEALTH FUNDS AS TRANSNATIONAL INVESTORS
Abstract
Państwowe fundusze majątkowe (Sovereign wealth funds − SWF) stanowią rządowe narzędzia inwestycyjne, tworzone w celu realizacji wybranych celów makroekonomicznych. Nie są one nowym elementem międzynarodowego systemu finansowego, jednak ze względu na rosnące znaczenie wywołują coraz większe zainteresowanie.
W artykule przedstawiono niektóre aspekty funkcjonowania SWF i dokonywanych przez fundusze inwestycji. W szczególności skupiono uwagę na transgranicznych inwestycjach SWF w sektory strategiczne. Ponadto zarysowano wpływ funduszy na światowy system finansowy oraz zaakcentowano ich zróżnicowanie.
Wyniki końcowej analizy pokazały, że choć SWF preferują w swoich inwestycjach kraje rozwinięte, to inwestując w sektory strategiczne dążą do uzyskania większej kontroli w przedsiębiorstwach z krajów rozwijających się.
Sovereign wealth funds (SWF) are government-owned investment vehicles, set up for a variety of macroeconomic purposes. They are not a new phenomenon in the international financial system but are becoming increasingly important and attract a growing attention. The paper highlights some aspects of SWFs’ operations and investment behaviour, focusing on SWFs’ transnational investments in sensitive sectors. It outlines the impact of funds on the global financial system and discusses the extreme diversity of SWFs. The results of the concluding analysis show that although SWFs prefer developed countries for their investments, when investing in sensitive sectors they are more likely to take control in companies from the developing world.
