Division of labour as an economic category

Abstract

The necessity of production is conditioned mainly by two factors: the existence of varied and continually growing human needs and the limited amount or goods, in a form provided by nature, which can satisfy thess needs. Production is always a phenomenon of a social character, during which proces people work for and with each other. This leads to division of labour thanks to which certain units specialize in certain kinds of jobs. Division of labour is an economic category of wide historical range appearing in different forms depending on the degree of development of production forces Division of labour can be considered from many angles, both from the of object and time as from space. Among the types of division of labour those most frequently mentioned are: social division, technical, professional, international and so on. Social division of labour at various levels leads to specialization in certains jobs which are performed by particular occupational groups of people (e.g. agricultural workers, shoemokers, weavers, accoutants etc.). Occupational division of labour constitutes one of the possible forms of social division of labour.
