Abstract

In the collective memory, lasting from June 2nd to 10th, 1979, John Paul II’s pilgrimage will be considered the immediate cause of the July-September 1980 catastrophes. The Pope visited Warsaw, Gniezno, Częstochowa, Kraków, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Wadowice, Oświęcim, and Nowy Targ. It is worth noting that approximately 10 million people followed the pilgrimage directly in religious gatherings and through surveillance. In the first half of the 1980s, the influence of influences on the emergence of the Solidarity movement, which is characteristic of Poland, was not generally recognized by everyone a year later. To answer the question of how John Paul II’s pilgrimage influenced the emergence of the Solidarity movement, it is necessary to understand what the new Solidarity was. However, in the literature, there is no single answer to the simple question that arises in Solidarity; it is defined in various ways, from the proletarian revolution or the original uprising, to the carnival.
