Abstract
Over ten years have passed since integrated library systems were first introduced in Polish libraries. During that time the enormous development in IT technologies effected in upgrading the database, the emergence of new versions and in activating new functions of library programs. Users of the Horizon integrated library system are currently facing the implemantation of the new innovative Rome system. The article presents its specifications and properties revealed during the May conference of Horizon users in Barcelona earlier this year and, at the same time, its aim is to provoke a discussion - what library system is best suited for library purposes of the 21 century? What programs are most favoured by librarians, how to modify options of particular modules or new technologies to adjust them to current changes on the market and ever-growing needs and requirements demanded by libraries and their users.
