Biographies of adult children of alcoholics. The expected and received social support. A psychopedagogical study.
Abstract
Dysertacja doktorska: „Biografie dorosłych dzieci alkoholików. Wsparcie społeczne oczekiwane i otrzymywane. Studium psychopedagogiczne” została podzielona na osiem rozdziałów. W części teoretycznej składającej się z sześciu rozdziałów nawiązano do problematyki związanej z definiowaniem alkoholizmu oraz współuzależnienia, by w dalszych rozdziałach móc odnieść się do często przytaczanego aspektu związanego z systemowym ujęciem funkcjonowania rodziny alkoholowej na bazie teorii Petera Steinglassa. Podkreślono istotność radzenia sobie z kryzysem w rodzinie, jak również wsparcia instytucjonalnego i pozainstytucjonalnego poszczególnych członków systemu rodzinnego. Dwa ostatnie rozdziały teoretyczne zostały poświęcone funkcjonowaniu osób dorastających w rodzinie alkoholowej oraz ich trudności i zasobów. W rozdziale siódmym dokonano przedstawienia głównych założeń metodologicznych autorskich badań. Przedmiotem analiz empirycznych uczyniono doświadczenia dorosłych dzieci alkoholików oraz oczekiwane i otrzymywane wsparcie społeczne w różnych etapach życia. Wykorzystano jakościową strategię prowadzenia badań, posługując się metodą biograficzną i wywiadem narracyjnym. Rozdział ósmy został poświęcony przedstawieniu, analizie i wnioskom z uzyskanych wyników badań własnych, które odnoszą się do następujących celów badań: opisanie doświadczeń życiowych na etapie dzieciństwa, dorastania i dorosłości oraz nadawanych im aktualnie znaczeń przez dorosłe dzieci alkoholików; ukazanie towarzyszących dorosłym dzieciom alkoholików emocji, przeżyć i strategii postępowania; ustalenie rodzajów i poziomu wsparcia otrzymywanego i oczekiwanego; ocena efektywności wsparcia, które jest przeznaczone dla osób pochodzących z rodzin alkoholowych wraz z wskazaniem potencjalnych kierunków jego rozwoju.
Doctoral dissertation: “Biographies of adult children of alcoholics. The expected and received social support. A psychopedagogical study.” is divided into eight chapters. In the theoretical part consisting of six chapters, the issues related to the definition of alcoholism and codependence are referred to, in order to be able to refer in the following chapters to the often quoted aspect related to the systemic approach to the functioning of an alcoholic family based on the theory of Peter Steinglass. The importance of coping with the crisis in the family, as well as institutional and non-institutional support of individual members of the family system is emphasized. The last two theoretical chapters are devoted to the functioning of adolescents in an alcoholic family and their difficulties and resources. Chapter 7 presents the main methodological assumptions of the author's research. The subject of empirical analyses was the experience of adult children of alcoholics and the expected and received social support at various stages of life. Qualitative strategy of research was used, based on the biographical method and the narrative interview. Chapter eight is devoted to the presentation, analysis and conclusions drawn from the obtained results of the author's research, which refer to the following research objectives: describing the life experiences in childhood, adolescence and adulthood as well as the meanings given to them by adult children of alcoholics; showing the emotions, experiences and management strategies accompanying adult children of alcoholics; determining the types and level of support received and expected; evaluation of the effectiveness of support addressed to people with alcoholic family background as well as indicating the potential directions of the development of such support.
