Abstract

The author interprets "Rich Men North of Richmond "by Oliver Anthony from an American populist way of thinking, whereby it is crucial to juxtapose the candor and straightforwardness of ‘simple’ people with the corruption of the elites. This, in turn, gives rise to wariness of experts and, in the long run, a kind of anti-intellectualism. In addition, the populist world view does not bring clear enough distinctions between various types of social rule, hoisting wealth to the position of society’s only attribute. These themes, mixed with religious undertones, the author argues, can all be found in Anthony’s popular song
