Item Career as a Domain Introducing Hierarchy in the Social Space – a Functional"Structural Perspective(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThe tradition positioning the study of careers in the structural-functional orientation sees the career as an external system, an objective phenomenon. In this cognitive perspective, a career means a sequence of professional roles fulfilled by the subject, which could mean promotion, stability or degradation. If we adopt an objective criterion to distinguish careers, it would be the positions (professional position or position within the profession) occupied in formal structures. In this sense, a career is not the attribute of an individual, but is the property of the professional role.Item “Career portfolio” as a Tool to Renew Career Capital(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2014) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaIn this article, the Author stressed the subject of the career phenomenon. The discourse presented here related to the career that requires taking into account multicontextual changes in the area of work and changes that make employees face new challenges, emphasizes the importance of constructing one’s own career “portfolio”, as a tool to renew one’s career. The most important changes include the increase in the role of the career and the ability to plan, manage and monitor one’s career in a lifelong perspective. Career capital is constituted by accumulated values that create career “portfolio” and are necessary to develop one’s career. Therefore career capital (subject to increase, decrease, or exchange for “fresh” capital) is a term that reflects the diagnoses and prognoses from an individual’s mind. These diagnoses and prognoses come from accumulated personal resources that individuals acquire through educational, professional, social, and cultural experience. Without a doubt, while analyzing individual career development paths, one should take into account a wide field of the subject’s conditions. Semantic meanings that individuals impart to their reality and in which they construct their careers should be also investigated.Item Constructing a career as a process of investing in its portfolio(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaMulticontextual social changes imply definitely new ways of interpretation and determine reflections about the condition of contemporary humans, including the human being as “a manager” of his own career. A society has become an area where individuals can show their initiative. A contemporary study of careers demands the inclusion of multicontextual changes in the job world. These changes face employees with new requirements. The most important ones are the increase of the role attached to a career and the ability to plan, manage and monitor one’s own career in a lifelong perspective. Considerations about a career cannot leave out the issue of the subjective sense that an individual finds in one’s own career in the context of possibilities that a man can have a satisfactory career. The world of careers is a world of numerous micro-changes. In the “portfolio” of micro-changes, the time between changes is reduced and after a period of stability renewed separation comes increasingly quickly.Item Dualizm w ujmowaniu kariery – akcentowanie jej subiektywnego i obiektywnego sensu(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2013) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaContemporary research on career demands takes into account multi-contextual changes in the world of work. For employees, these changes mean new requirements. A plethora of theoretical attempts to define the career more precisely undoubtedly shows the multiplicity of problems in the analysis of this complex phenomenon. Contemporary discussion on the subject of career is definitely linked with emphasising the subjective and objective sense attributed to it. The following considerations will constitute an attempt to describe and explain a dualistic career perception in symbolic interactionism. Theorizing the problem of individual career practice stresses issues related to the possibility to understand reasonable actions taken by individuals. These are the actions that make social life meaningful. In this tradition, social structures are considered to create a context for the meaning of human creativity. The main focus is on the interplay between societies and organisations. This game constitutes the structure of the position in which individuals are present and within which identifiable career patterns are created.Item Globalization and Alternative Thinking: on the Need to Direct the Society Towards Responsible Co-Participation and Cooperation(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2018) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaContemporary world has become a global ecumene. The theory of globalization as approached by R. Robertson invokes the world conceptualization which assumes reducing the tension between the dichotomous tendencies. Unification and diversification are complementary processes, they are mutually influential and essential for the contemporary stage of development of the global society. The paradigm of globalization on the social and cultural plane is revealed in the binary scheme of extremes, such as: decontextualization and recontextualization, decomposition and recomposition, deteritorialization and re-teritorialization, transculturation and internalization. The contemporary anti-globalist movement is a reflection of ideological opposition. The criticism of globalization remains in close connection to an increasingly lively discussion regarding alternatives to globalization. Specificity of the quality of global cultural ecumene reveals the need to shape and improve the orientation towards responsible participation and cooperation in the changing and co-dependent global society.Item „Indywidualistyczne” vs „kolektywistyczne” orientacje normatywne młodzieży akademickiej(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2017) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaIn the article, the author refers to the individualism-collectivism dichotomy, which is a theoretical construct serving to explain the mutual relations of the individual and the group. It moreover provides a dimension differentiating between cultures which give the primacy to the individual over the group and those, which privilege the group over the individual. An individualistic tendency means that an individual is the subject for whom the collective is an object of action. Collectivism is the polar opposite view: the collective entity is the proper subject of the proceedings, in relation to which individuals are objects. The author of the article, acknowledging the need to recognize the quality of images and views of academic youth about a career path, invoked the structure and function of selected normative assumptions as important dimensions of the socio-cultural mentality of the individual. The research study helped grasp the ‘individualistic’ and ‘collectivist’ normative assumptions of university youth,Item Kariera jako „własność” jednostki – rozważania teoretyczne nad definicyjnym credo(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu im.Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, 2012) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThe narration of this article is focused on showing various ways of capturing the phenomenon of career from a subjective perspective. The subject of an analysis will be the reconstruction of chosen theoretical perspectives, where one emphasizes changes in quality attitude to the career phenomenon and showing the “career making” meaning of people’s activities. The content presented in this article is concentrated on a subjective, personal aspect of capturing a career. In this sense, career is always ascribed to a specific individual, it is their assets and this particular individual attaches importance to the career phenomenon. In this sense, career is the sequence of experiences of a particular individual, linked with the quality of a professional life; this is a unique structure, resulting from autonomous choices.Item Kariera w społeczeństwie współczesnym – między podmiotem a strukturą (interpretacja teorii A. Giddensa)(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2013) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThis article is an attempt to restore a theoretical perspective proposed in the theory of structuration by A. Giddens. Giddens’ theory emphasizes the mutual infl uence of individual subjects’ activities and of more than individual structures, as well as the meaning of at least partially uninhibited individual actions. Referring to careers, the author looks for answers to the question about the way of creating, transforming and replicating structures (of an organization) through a subject’s actions. The author also relates to the questions about the nature of a structure (an organization), that is “an entity”, which, at the same time enables and restricts actions of individual subjects. Without a doubt, the work of A. Giddens constitutes a clear renaissance of the subject of structure and subjectivity in sociological theory. It also gives tools to overcome a division into micro and macro practice; that is why it may also constitute one of the important attempts to formulate a novel understanding of the notion of career.Item Młodzież w relacji do kariery jako „własności” zawodu albo „roli zawodowej” – perspektywa funkcjonalno-strukturalna(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaIn her article the Author refers to the tradition that places the studies in the subject of career in the structural and functional orientation that treats career as an external system, an objective phenomenon. “Objective careers” reflect more or less publically visible positions and statuses. According to the highlighted perspective, a “career” is a sequence of a subject’s professional roles which may mean promotion, stability or degradation. In this sense, one has to recognize that all subjects present on the job market pursue a career, which means that they take part in the career domain. The originality of this perspective makes us perceive a career in terms of social mobility, which most often means individuals’ vertical mobility. In this article, the Author discusses careers that embody a wide spectrum of contexts invoking the reflection on how the academic youth perceives the career domain and to what degree and extent these young people are oriented towards careers in the objective sense, realized through prestige, power, money, and promotion.Item Prodevelopmental Orientation as a Determinant of an Active Cooperation of a Subject for the Benefit of Constructing One’s Own Career(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu im.Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, 2012) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThe orientation of a contemporary society towards a global career creates the need of rebuilding the frames of human activity and innovation. The most important is active participation and cooperation in a reality undergoing a permanent change. Conceptualization of quality new apprehension of career issues as an individual’s possession indicates a many-sided character of a contemporary discourse, which combines implications of an interdisciplinary dialogue and creates the need to review theoretical reflection about the way of understanding career and conditions, as well as indicators of its formation and construction. The „prodevelopmental orientation” is a remedy for a contemporary human being to be oneself again in this situation in the world of careers. In this attitude towards the definition of „a career”, one underlines importance of constructing (not choosing) a career for designing a quality of life.Item Przywództwo – ustalenia definicyjne i sposoby rozumienia(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2015) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThis article picks up a few threads that focus on the subject of leadership, as well as on the possibilities of its empirical verification or implication in practice. In the last four decades it has been noticed that there are more and more various concurrent theoretical assumptions about leadership. The Author emphasises that the value of a debate about the leadership career theory is determined by the critical way of looking at the multiplicity of theoretical perspectives. The Author points to the fact that there is a need to generate new attitudes so that they are relevant to the dynamics of the modern world changes, as well as to challenges of effective leadership. The conceptual complexity of the leadership phenomenon and its multidimensionality, multidirectionality, flexibility and contextualism determine the need to integrate the multiplicity of positions and theoretical orientations.Item Rozwój kariery jako proces inwestowania w kapitał kariery(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2012) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThis article presents a discourse about the subject of careers; a discourse, which demands tak-ing into account multicontextual changes in the job world, that make employees face new re-quirements. The increase of roles ascribed to careers and the ability to plan, manage and moni-tor one’s career in the lifelong perspective are the most important requirements. The article noticeably stresses the subjective tinge of the career phenomenon. Career capital comprises of values that create career competence and that are useful in its constitution and development. It means that the career capital (which can increase, but which can also lose its value or be ex-changed for a “fresh” one) is a term reflecting in an individual’s mind a diagnosis and a progno-sis of accumulative individual resources, acquired in the course of educational, professional, social and cultural experience. There is no doubt that while analysing individual paths of a career development, one should include a wide spectrum of an individual’s determinants, as well as, one should examine semantic meanings that a subject ascribes to the reality in order to interpret and understand one’s past and new feelings and experiences.Item Świat, w którym „kariera robi karierę” – o satysfakcji z kariery i poczuciu zawodowego sukcesu(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2013) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaMulti-contextual social changes imply definitely new ways of their interpretation and they order reflections about the predicament of the contemporary human being, including his or her being managers of their careers. Society has become an area where individuals can show their initiative. A contemporary study of career demands an inclusion of multi-contextual changes in the job world, changes that present employees with new requirements. The most important ones are the increase of the role attributed to a career and the ability to plan, manage and monitor one’s own career in a lifelong perspective. Considerations of a career cannot disregard the issue of the subjective sense that individuals find in their own careers in the context of possibilities that a man can have a satisfactory career.Item The Contemporary Society, Changes in the Job World – Challenges for the Future(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu im.Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, 2012) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThe narrative used in the article refers to the interpretational complexity of the phenomenon of contemporary society. Globalization fulfills a wide spectrum of the global world phenomena in the situation of unobviousness, diversity, ambivalence and ambiguity, which influence the new quality of sociocultural life. Trying to understand the content given to the distinguished definitions of society, intellectuals refer to the theory of the social development and to the interpretation of the mechanisms of a social change, with a focus on the spheres of social life, which are the impulses for changes taking place in the society. Emphasizing heterogeneity and changeability of forms of postmodern social organization, one may point to the following orientations capturing subtleness of the contemporary society: orientation to a global change, orientation to a certain type of civilization ascription to risk, orientation to responsibility, orientation to anticipation, orientation to responsible participation and cooperation in a changing and interdependent global society, orientation to knowledge, orientation to experience borrowed from the media, orientation to the consumption ideology. Society faces the task of selfdetermination in the situation of non-obviousness, risk, fragmentation and ambiguity. By no accident then, were the the globalizational processes in the world and a critical and permanent thought and evaluation of the changes taking place in the modern global society, in the focus of the authoress. Paying attention to the quality of the global “cultural ecumene” (U. Hannerz) inclines reflection about global changes in lifestyles which is meaningful for the quality of changes in the job world and career planning and career management practices. The sequential development of an individual (which is integrally linked with the career development) constitutes the essence of the process, which is lifelong. The economy which is based on knowledge determines the orientation on knowledge of the contemporary society. The development of careers of members in such a society is its crucial element. Moreover, the quality of socio-cultural and economic changes will demand constant career management and modification of its individualized paths.Item Youth on Their Way to Shape Their Identity in a Professional Career(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2014) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThis article presents a discourse about the subject of careers; identity of youth in a professional career. There is no doubt that while analyzing individual paths of a career development, one should include a wide spectrum of an individual’s determinants, as well as, one should examine semantic meanings that a subject ascribes to the reality in order to interpret and understand one’s past and new feelings and experiences. Issues of identity crystallize the problem of trajectory of individual career and the construction of a subject’s professional identity.Item Zarządzanie dla przywództwa – implikacje edukacyjne dla szkolnictwa wyższego(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2015) Cybal-Michalska, AgnieszkaThe article presented in this work is focused on the subject of leadership and management, as well as on the relationships between the two. This discourse requires the inclusion of multicontextual changes of the neo-liberal world, which make leaders face new requirements. The most important of these are: an increasing role of leadership, management for leadership, transformational leadership, styles of management and the ability to manage changes, and finally planning, managing and monitoring careers of organization workers. A subjective overlap of leadership and management constructs will be clearly stressed in the text. Accumulated values that create management and leadership competence and values that are useful in their creation and development contribute to the leadership career capital and management career capital – and perhaps even management for leadership career capital.
