Item Anthropology of Education and the Understanding of Cultural Diversity(Atiner, 2016) Drozdowicz, JaremaAnthropology of education is regarded as a relatively new sub discipline combining theory and methods of anthropological and ethnographic studies with those of pedagogy and educational studies. This paper deals with the problem how the anthropology of education and also anthropology in general might be applied towards the issue of cultural diversity and the category of cultural difference. It is important to NATO that those problems gain a new meaning and seem to be crucial in the context of the transformation that occurs today in Western societies. This very change could be described as the transition of the nation state into a multicultural state and society. The debate surrounding the idea and praxis of multiculturalism raises further questions on how we are able to create patterns of integration applied to minorities, migrants, refugees etc. In the light of the recent processes and events in Europe this question seems to be significant more than ever and the anthropology of education could serve here as a partial answer to the raised issues.Item Antropologia edukacji. Studium różnicy kulturowej w społeczeństwie otwartym(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Wydziału Nauk Społecznych UAM, 2019) Drozdowicz, JaremaItem Antropologia edukacji. Studium różnicy kulturowej w społeczeństwie otwartym(Wydawnictwo Naukowe WNS UAM, 2019) Drozdowicz, JaremaKsiążka ta stara się uporządkować pewne zachodnie debaty związane z wielokulturowością i polityką multikulturalizmu, gdzie to pierwsze pojęcie odnosiłoby się do pewnego stanu rzeczywistości społecznej, drugie zaś do poziomu ideowej konceptualizacji tejże rzeczywistości. Z jednej strony mowa tu o praktykowaniu antropologii edukacji w rozmaitych kontekstach lokalnych i w związku z różnymi lokalnym tradycjami badawczymi. Item Between Kwanzaa and Jediism. Contemporary constructions of religious identity and imagined communities(2012) Drozdowicz, JaremaItem Black heroes and heroines in cinema.Representations of Afro-American identities in the “Blaxploitation” movies(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2014) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe cinematic genre of Blaxploitation is a significant example of how the popular culture influences certain identity patterns. In this case the this relation is being examined on the issue of contemporary Afro-American identities. This paper attempts to answer the question of the mechanism of identity construction in the context of new media, and cinema in particular. Thus the Blaxploitation movies are being regarded here as a phenomenon which is in large extent typical for other identity constructions in the context of a global cultural change occurring in the last decades in the West.Item Brunatna edukacja. Kultura, nauka i wychowanie w Trzeciej Rzeszy(Humaniora. Fundacja dla humanistyki, 2016) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe system of education in the Third Reich represented a specific way of combining ideological indoctrination with a certain set of national myths. It was based on a racial discourse and anti-Semitism, as well it persuaded an imperative of total domination over non-German groups of people. This paper deals with the distinctive features of the mentioned educational system in order to deliver a better understanding of functioning of education within a totalitarian regime. Education is her not just simply a selected area of authoritarian politics but an important tool in the mechanism of maintaining control over people’s minds through changing their worldview.Item Building Global Communities Through Universal Bilingual Education(Pixel, 2023) Drozdowicz, JaremaThis paper explores the process resulting in building global communities through the idea of universal bilingual education. In order to do so the paper presents basic theoretical concepts of global communities that are useful today, ie. community of trade, community of law, and community of autonomous communities. Those three concepts are being used to reflect the key aspects of the process in the context of bilingual education and its central role to the effort of building global bridges across local determinants of national schooling systems and the school practice. Thus the case study of the Polish educational initiative International Social Education Programme Bilingual Future serves the purpose of showing how it could be done with the clear goal of gaining real linguistic competence along with social, communicative, and intercultural skills.Item Chasing Tinderella: love and affection in the age of the mobile device industry(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2017) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe extensive use of mobile phones is today a constant part of our daily routines. This social habit had afected also the spehere of emotion, sexuality and the ways people show affection or discontent towards the others. This paper aims at the main characteristics of the relatively new phenomenon of online dating and dating applications in the cintext of the mobile industry’s rise in contemporary economies. The process of a growing number of devices and applications sold worldwide cannot be disregarded in a sociological sense as it clearly affects other areas of public and private lives of individuals. The issue of online security is here also brought into attention. The main thesis of this paper is however based on the notion of the mobile industry as a main factor in changing the technological side of social relations in the todays reality, but on the other hand a certain historical evidence is being highlighted that shows a continuity on a more personal level of the way people deal with love in general.Item Decydujący moment w świecie Instagramu. Współczesna fotografia uliczna i wirtualne tożsamości(Wydawnictwo Akademii Pedagogiki Specjalnej, 2016) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe huge popularity of new media platforms and social media is a phenomenon specific for the transitions of contemporary culture. The growing interest in these kinds of communication is visible also in the area of visual culture, especially in the context of photography. This paper makes an attempt of a critical inquiry in the dependency between the mentioned platforms, including Instagram for example, and the transformation of current patterns of media descriptions of reality. A significant part of that discussion is the field of the so called street photography. This sort of documentary photography had gained paradoxically thanks to Instagram a new dimension of articulation and is one of the most popular forms of expressing one’s way of perceiving every day life. This and other phenomena of modern media delivers further evidence for the thesis that is stating a creative and dynamic character of transformation of global culture.Item Karl R. Popper i Ludwig Wittgenstein jako nauczyciele. Dwie biografie, dwie koncepcje filozofii edukacji(2021) Drozdowicz, JaremaThis article explores lesser known facts about two most prominent twentieth-century philosophers: Karl R. Popper and Ludwig Wittgenstein. It reconstructs their practices as school teachers and puts them in the context of the models of philosophy of education described by them in some of their works. Their teaching experiences, however, diff ered in many respects, and these diff erences might serve the purpose of presenting how their conceptual work was put by them into practice and how it worked out for them. It also brings the historical context of the school reform introduced in Austria in the 1920s and shows how this very reform aff ected their concepts of education and how they introduced them in the schools in which they worked.Item Krytyczna teoria rasy (Critical Race Theory) i obecność koncepcji rasy w kontekscie przeszłych i bieżących amerykańskich dyskusji edukacyjnych(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu im.Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, 2012) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe concept of race seems to be, despite the efforts of various political movements of 1960’s still present in the public life and education in the Unites States. Contemporary educational debates in America in most cases tackle this problem through the lenses of a specific research approach which takes the concept of race as granted, when examining social relations in the American society. This approach, generally called Critical Race Theory (CRT) had been established in the late 1980’s, but its theoretical, methodological and political roots go back to the decade of the Vietnam War and the assassination of Martin Luther King or even further. This paper makes an attempt to deliver a closer look at the CRT and to highlight its most important assumptions and forms of political actions undertaken within the common frame of the racial concept. The Boasian tradition in the American way of conceptualization of race is an important factor in this debate. The past and present educational debates in the USA prove the fact that the idea of race is undergoing nowadays an intensive shift from its biological basis towards economic and social differences making the new conflicts even more visible in the American political landscape today.Item Mapowanie różnicy. Human Terrain System w akademickich i społecznych dyskursach władzy(Wydawnictwo Adam Marszałek, 2012) Drozdowicz, JaremaItem Migrujące podmioty. Relacje, konteksty i przyszłość problemu zróżnicowania kulturowego w edukacji(2020) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe issue of migration is now becoming part of a wider debate on cultural diversity. This article explores selected aspects of this debate in the context of school education. A relatively new subdiscipline, the anthropology of education, is indicated as a useful perspective in this matter. Anthropological research on migration and cultural differences in general can be regarded here as a scientific reconstruction of the processes that lead to the construction of otherness. The cultural figure of a migrant in particular serves as an example of these processes in the context of European education. Western concepts of otherness thus build large part of the current political and social debates on migration and the presence of migrants in the educational milieu. The article examines these concepts in relation to the main contemporary migration trends visible in the West.Item Multiculturalism Reconsidered. Bilingual Education in Guatemala(Wydział Studiów Edukacyjnych Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, 2015) Drozdowicz, JaremaThe modern Maya movement is an example of a new sort of indigenous cultural activism. The long lasting struggle for indigenous rights had finally led to the renegotiation of the social, legal and political order in countries like Guatemala and Mexico. Today we witness a vibrant indigenous activism in many fields, like education for example. This paper deals with the issue of multicultural education in the mentioned countries, but also it presents critical problems of a wider process – i.e. regaining cultural freedom after 500 years of marginalization.Item Nazistowski okultyzm a niemiecka koncepcja narodu i wspólnoty(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2010) Drozdowicz, JaremaJarema Drozdowicz – NAZI OCCULTISM AND THE GERMAN TRADITION IN THE QUESTION OF NATION AND COMMUNITY The occult movement within nazism is a phenomenon that has to be understood in a broad-er context of a certain tradition of speaking on nation and community. This very manner of dis-cussion is linked to earlier processes and movements that took place in Germany in the 19th Cen-tury and early 20th Century. The German romantic ideology, as an opposition to the Enlightment and modernism, classic nationalism and racial concepts were put together in a specific worldview called völkisch ideology. This ideology together with the concept of pan-germanism were the most important factors of the emergence of nazi esoterics. Such authors as Guido von List and Jörg Lans von Liebensfels delivered the theoretical background for the movement, which later had been incorporated into nazi rhetorics on nation, culture and race. This article makes an attempt of understanding how these ideas worked in theory and praxis during the rule of the nazi regime and how nazi occultism affected the action in occupied Europe.Item Neopoganizm a przemiany religijności młodzieży amerykańskiej(2021) Drozdowicz, JaremaThis paper deals with the issue of the rise of neopagan movements and the changes occuring in the religiosity and spirituality of North American youth, It also tackles the problem of change in relation to the attitudes towards religion in general among adolescents in the United States and other parts of the world. The main objective is here to bring out the most significant aspects of this change and to contextualize the contemporary rise of neopaganism in terms of social and cultural factors. This step places the mentioned phenomenon in the context of the socio-cultural transformations which gave birth not just to modern neopagan movements but also New Age and other new forms of religiosity which gains popularity among the younger generations today.Item Perła w koronie. Rzecz o Banksy'm(Wydawnictwo Impuls, 2012) Drozdowicz, JaremaItem Pomiędzy Kwanzaa a Jediizmem. Współczesne konstrukcje tożsamości religijnej i wspólnoty wyobrażone(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2011) Drozdowicz, JaremaJarema Drozdowicz – BETWEEN KWANZAA TO JEDIISM. CONTEMPORARY CONSTRUCTIONS OF RELIGIOUS IDENTITY AND IMAGINED COMMUNITIES The modern religious identity is often recalling the idea of communitarism as one of its basic premises. This paper makes an attempt to present the most significant ideas behind the mechan-ism of creation of a modern religious community. The examples of two religious phenomena, the American Kwanzaa holiday and the newly established religion of Jediism are showing, that creating a community on the basis of religion is not just limited to belonging to a existing community. It also might be created in relation to a purely imagined community. The term, introduced by Benedict Anderson, is a useful tool in describing the modern processes of constructing religious identity, which more and more often is also a part of larger ideologies. These ideologies are nowadays also present in our lives through culture and pop-culture. Popcultural identities, just like in case of Jediism, are becoming popular among western societies; a fact which we have to include today in our scientific vocabulary if we want to deliver.Item POST-EDUKACJA I ANTYINTELEKTUALIZM JAKO ZJAWISKA KULTUROWE(2019) Drozdowicz, JaremaItem Pożegnanie ideału równości? Edukacja elitarna w szkołach średnich w Szwecji(2018) Drozdowicz, Jarema
