Abstract: The aim of this paper is to review school assessment as a teacher-pupil relation from the point of view of the "humiliation" category. I pose questions about the extent to which the humiliation mechanism is present at the contemporary Polish school and what the consequences of experiencing "being humiliated" are for students. It is supported with the result of my own research into school assessment, in particular the situation of oral testing and marking pupils' conduct with a grade from the perspective of junior high school students.
