Renewed unity of the Kiev Church Metropoly and the Roman Apostolic See according to John Paul II
Abstract
Przedmiotem pracy doktorskiej jest zagadnienie odnowionej relacyjności wschodniego Kościoła tradycji kijowskiej ze Stolicą Apostolską, gdzie główny akcent został położony na zjawisku urzeczywistnienia jedności metropolii kijowskiej ze Stolicą Apostolską w nauczaniu Jana Pawła II. W pracy ukazano całościowy proces spełniania idei jedności w Kościele kijowskim nurtu katolickiego w ujęciu papieża. Już sam akt zjednoczenia ze Stolicą Apostolską zakładał zachowanie dotychczasowej tożsamości duchowej, własnej spuścizny liturgiczno-obrzędowej (wschodniej) i niezależności jurysdykcyjnej. Jednocześnie przewidywała ona całkowitą zbieżność poglądową z nauką Kościoła katolickiego w najważniejszych kwestiach wiary i dogmatów. W pracy zostały omówione dokumenty Jana Pawła II, w których odnosi się do dziedzictwa duchowego Kościoła kijowskiego. Biskup Rzymu kładzie w nich duży nacisk na jego niezmienną odpowiedzialność zachowania własnej odmienności rytualnej i bogatej duchowości wschodniej. Poprzez wierność własnej tradycji i Stolicy Apostolskiej katolicy kijowscy wnosili i wnoszą wciąż do całościowego dziedzictwa Kościoła powszechnego nowy element przenikania duchowego i doktrynalnego. Kościół ten, zdaniem papieża, szczególnie obecnie może być ważnym czynnikiem na płaszczyźnie dialogu ekumenicznego.
This paper is with regard to the issue of the renewed relation between the Eastern Church of the Kiev tradition and the Roman Apostolic See, where the emphasis has been placed on the problem of the unity between the Kiev Metropoly and the Apostolic See in John Paul II teachings. The entire process of fulfilling the idea of unity in the Kiev Catholic Church is presented in the approach of John Paul II. The very fact of the unification with the Apostolic See assumed maintenance of spiritual identity, own liturgical and ritual heritage and jurisdictional independence. Simultaneously, it stipulated complete synoptic convergence with the Catholic Church teachings in essential matters of faith and dogmas.The documents of John Paul II, where he relates to the spiritual heritage of the Kiev Church, are discussed in the work. The Bishop of Rome emphasizes there its permanent responsibility for continuity of the ritual distinctness and rich Eastern spirituality. Only thanks to faithfulness to its own tradition and the Roman Apostolic See, the Greek Catholics made and are still making a great contribution to the Church heritage, a new element where spirituality and doctrine mingles. The Greek Catholic Church, in the Pope’s opinion, may become an essential factor on the ground of ecumenical dialogue.
