Abstract

The subject of thesis is the history of the Communist Party of Poland (KPP) in Poznań Voivodeship in the Second Polish Republic. During the interwar period this region was dominated by followers of National Democracy, however, few communists tried to operate in the illegal party, that was established in December 1918. They aimed to trigger the social revolution in order to overthrow the existing political and economic system of the Second Polish Republic, and then to introduce changes similar to the model of the Soviet Union. Polish party was connected with the Soviets not only with the common ideology, but also close formal subordination. Since 1921 KPP appeared as a section of the Communist International (Comintern). Despite many publications about the communist movement in times of Polish People’s Republic (after World War II), the party's history in Greater Poland has never been separately elaborated. Consequently the thesis’ main purpose was to reconstruct the primary facts. The first chapter discusses the history of the KPP in the whole country, while the other parts are already focused directly on the operations of communists in Poznań Viovodeship. The second chapter describes the origins of their activity in Poznań in 1919, until the famous Alfred Bem and his comrades trial in 1927. The next one relates to activists involved also in legally existing Polish Socialist Party-Left in 1928-1930. Then, much attention was dedicated to the party’s top capabilities, that were, in my opinion, in the first half of the 1930s. In chapter five I discuss decline and disappearance of KPP activities until its dissolution by the Comintern in 1938. The sixth chapter, in which an attempt was made to prepare a group portrait of party members, has different character. In the last chapter the most important aspects of the KPP's heritage in the realities of the Polish People’s Republic were analyzed. The main theses and findings resulting from the whole argument are presented in the conclusion. At the end there is also an annex with illustrations.
